ND4's Fog Light Anytime Mod... NO splicing, No Bending, 100% reversible

I know I'm snooping in a 2nd gen forum, but has anyone done this on a 3rd gen?

 

I did this but i didn't bother putting a connector on the wire that goes to the outlet relay, I just stripped the wire back a little and wrapped it around that leg of the relay and put it back in. I tried with the connector first but it seemed like a really tight fit and I didnt want to break anything so I did it the other way.

 

I searched high and low for the other method where you remove a wire from the back of the relay, no jumpers or relay. I did it to my last truck and trying to do it for this one, anyone remember the thread and/or have the link?

yes. So long as the key is in the On / Acc position you can turn foglights on or off.

Yeah? What burb? I attempted the one method linked in post 767 but my relays are different. I also just ordered the caliraised pods so this mod would be saweet.

I have a 2015 TRD OR and just tried this mod exactly as shown. However, it won't work. I used a volt meter to verify that I do have power off the brown wire - and I did check the continuity of all of the pig tail wires. Everything checks out, and when I undo everything and put it back together all works perfect. Any ideas why this will not work? Thank You

UPDATE: I got it to work. I needed a heavier gauge wire. It seems like the thin wire was not enough to handled the current? Not sure, but now it works perfect.

My 2010 TRD OR did not have the same co-located relay per the original post, and I was leery about using the EFI or any other potentially critical circuit. I used the horn relay instead, and the fog lights come on when the switch is pressed. Great for setting up camp without calling in the insects.

 

AHHH Great IDEA using the horn relay. Id much more recommend that VS the EFI relay!

 

I hope this is like #1 on the top free or almost free mods. Took 15 minutes and done! love it! Thanks OP for the thread.

 

The Horn circuit is not a "switched" circuit.

ah, didnt know you could hit the horn without keys in.

 

Is using 12 gauge wire bit of any over kill for everything? It’s all I had. Also do you you have to turn on the inverter for the lights to work?
