Sounds like you may need to pull some timing out in that RPM range. Instead of buying the entire 7th kit, you can just get the FTC Fuel/timing controller in order to adjust your timing maps. Just an idea :notsure:

I read somewhere that 2nd hens can have their ECU red lashes by Toyota to accept the S/C...might want to look at that too.

That’s weird that you’re pinging before boost. Sounds like a problem that’s not related to the S/C?

Have you tried having your injectors cleaned by a carbon cleaning service? Or one that uses ultrasonic and solvents?

I replaced them with later model 3.4L injectors. My AFR is around 14.7 at cruising speed and 11.5 at WOT open loop and 8 pounds of boost.

Dumb question. I know that 14.7 is a good AFR. But should it be lower at higher RPMs? Or is the goal to keep it about 14?

And does the wideband not read what the Methanol makes up for where the fuel injection falls short?

I'm pretty sure this is definitely not a supercharger issue because the ping issue comes on for the supercharger even starts to get going, did you have ping issues before you put the supercharger on

Ping started after I installed the super charger. That is what makes this a puzzle to fix.

I have been running -20° windshield washer fluid and other then helping with temperatures, I do not see an increase in AFR or power. I was able to finally get a 5 gallon can of methanol that I am going to mix and see how that works. But it won't have anything to do with my pinging.

Is it pinging at the 2500 rpm, at 6000 feet??

No problem. I’m not sure if they can do this with first gens. I guess I’d have to find a competent dealership that has done this before. That’s real hard to come by. The dealerships in my area couldn’t even tell me if they have Motor vac carbon cleaning service. Even after transferring me multiple times to people that’s aren’t even in the service department... I gave up.

There's hope for 03-04's to get tuned with software via these guys:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-tacoma-3-4l-k-line-ecu-reflash-interest.502600/

Earlier than that, the ecu's are prehistoric and not able to be re-flashed :(

Cool. We’ll see what happens. Even if it does it seems like it may not be available for some time......A while back there was also hope for a turn key 2JZ kit for the Tacoma. It never came to fruition. If that was a thing I’d sell my shit right now and hop on that bad wagon.

Can someone explain to me why some people seem to think Water/meth injection on this S/C and no other fuel mods won’t work well at sea level?

Thanks man. I’ve had first gens for almost 10 years now and I love em....I dont really think I’m getting ping. It’s just some new sounds I’m not used to over my 02 3.4.....it makes me paranoid. And I have a S/C to install, wanted to be sure everything was good before I put it on. Still trying to figure them out or may just have to live with it. But other than that drives great!
