Just curious if we should consider this section of tacoma forums for ECU Tuning (stock ECU) (03-04)

(end of this year we'd be looking at start)

Is it even possible? I thought it was non flashable ROM hence why everyone with the 3.4 uses piggy backs. I have an extra 3.4 auto ECU if you wanted to try with one.

I dunno man, there aren't many modding the 5vz. Perhaps, though, part of that is because the stock ECU hasn't been cracked and tuned successfully. It's sure a stout platform!

    I know one guy...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5vz-rebuild-first-timer-noobtastic-thread.492672/

Looking to get 190 hp to the wheels with ported and polished heads, headers, and afe filter. MR2 guys that swap them in would be interested as well I imagine.

IF possible I think there would be a lot of interest. I'm sure a retune would return more hp/tq per dollar than the basic intake/exhaust mods can

What years of 5vz are you thinking? ECU changed a bit over the years. 95.5-97 was very basic. 98 is the easiest to do motor swaps with. 99+ used wideband o2 and different type of MAF. Some 03/04's had drive by wire throttle that was buggy.

Why is 98 the easiest to do swaps with? Learning as I go...

You can use a 98 M/T ECU with either a manual or an auto harness. if you want to swap to auto one day, get an auto ECU and plug in the tranny. Other years do not have the same pinouts to work that way.

    98 is also S/C friendly.

Not enough to have a build thread.
I be interested given the following are true:

    1. It's CA legal or can be flashed back to factory easily

    2. It provides a significant power increase with minimal issues or extra strain on components

    uugh...03-04's...

On the flip side, this could fix the buggy drive-by-wire issue for good. So whoever is on the lookout for a 1st gen they have a better advantage.

Yeah so on an 03 what would that entail?
Could that coincide with a 7th injector kit and it's tune? It's for my supercharger.
