Besides, those pliers are for when you're way past the box wrench/socket repair phase. I have two pair in my tool chest. Never use them. Those type of pliers fuck things up, but then, if you're working on shit, you can't really fuck that up any more than it is already. I don't own shit, and never let anything go to shit. I get rid of it first.

So, having said that; anyone want to buy a pair of Mastercraft Knipex knock offs? I think that I paid $20 for the set of two. They're Maximums; really good shit.

That's exactly how I look at things now. LOL!
As an everyday tool though I would still take Knipex over anything else. You will never pinch your fingers and once you apply pressure, it self locks. Less strain on your hands,wrist, forearm = worth every penny (nickel now I guess)

I'm a sparky remember use them a lot. Whether tightening threaded rod into drop in anchors, tightening compression type fittings on EMT or lock nuts on connectors, sealtight connectors or anything to do with rigid pipe.
Besides I didn't pay that much for them. O'Neil electrical supply used to carry knipex and when they stopped they were selling everything 60% off so I got four pairs dirt cheap. I've had the mastercraft ones, once you torque on them they fail.

One bolt per hole.. Seems to be the best anyway...

 

one of my favourite parts to knipex. Never need to worry about slipping and having my pinky or something get pinched right at the end of the handle.

As an auxiliary. I've been reading up on different styles of switches. I'm leaning towards the blue seas. What do you guys think are the best switches and why?

The only reason I didn’t go with the ctek unit was the cost. The price you posted isn’t bad. However it is a slower charge. You only get so many amps with that unit so you need to buy the other one.

I went with the blue sea mlacr as it was a good price point, I could change my charging voltage (special fuse), and it had a large charging point (what ever my house battery is)

I don’t have much tome on the blue sea ml act but so far so good. It’s a good price, I can add to it, and it’s marine grade.

The dc to dc gives you the ultimate true charging. But if your starting battery is getting charged then your house shouldn’t have issues. Especially since you have the bigger alternator.

 

That's looks like the unit I'll be going for. What gauge are you running on + side? ML ACR calls for 4/0 to meet their specs. That's some big fuckin cable....also did you have to purchase a regulator for the solar panel and if so what did you go with?

 

they want 4/0 for the 500 amps constant.Since our demands won't require that (unless you are running a winch for longer than a minute on full load with all your accessories on the second battery) 1/0 should be good. I am running 1/0. So far so good. I have all my accessories and everything on the second battery. Had to run my truck to charge the second battery while I ran a shop vac from my inverter. All was good.

 

Makes sense ....good thing too.... 4/0 is not cheap. I have a bunch of 0 awg I can run. I bought a crimp tool, 25 tinned marine grade 7/16, 0 awg terminal connectors, a manual reset 250 amp (for my inverter) breaker and a 120 amp (for my amp). I still have an auto reset 300 amp that I can throw on the aux battery. I think all I need for right now is the ml acr and I'll be set to install. I'm thinking behind my drivers seat......

 

works. Right now I am just running a cheap 150amp inline fuse on the auxiliary battery. So far so good. Even started the truck with the two attached. No issues. With what you said it should be good to go.

Looks like.... Hopefully the wife and my son will be coming with. I have a rather large project I'll be commencing on the Monday so a snow run would be a nice little getaway before I have to slave for a month straight.
