2014 Non JBL w/ navigation retrofit DIY w/ info & part numbers

Mines just been tucked in behind the dashboard since day 1. No issues.

14/15 radios have the camera on the screen. I don't believe I have any diagrams, but I'll have to look.

 

I have not had my 2014 apart again to verify, but the 2016 service manual indicates that it goes behind one of the defroster ducts (probably the right one). The defroster duct is attached with 2 bolts.

The 2016 is 3rd generation, but it seems likely that the 2nd generation goes in the same place.

 

Use a volt meter. When I relocated my backup cam to the radio I used a diagram I found somewhere on here and it indicated a different wire to tap in for the reverse signal. I just tested a few and found the right one easy peasy

 

I stuck my GPS antenna on top of the AC vent piping behind the radio. It just sits there and works fine.

 

Here's what I did. My 2013 came with a camera in the mirror. Bought a 2014 nav unit that has a backup camera feed.

Later on I bought a 5 wire 22awg cable from a local cable/networking store and redid the wiring. So I only have 1 small cable running through the dash.

I have the plug but never got past that point. I'll have to give you thread a good read and finish my set up.

 

So I actually bought the camera source harness but it was for up to 2013 trucks. The plug on the radio end of the harness would not fit into the radio. All I had to do was cut off the locking tab and make sure the plug was positioned all the way to the one side of the radio. It was towards the passenger side of the truck IIRC. Routed the harness thru the dash to the fuse box by the drivers left knee. That side of the harness plugged right into the camera plug. the 5th wire in the harness is the reverse trigger. I actually figured out the reverse trigger this morning by doing exactly what @hx989 had said. It took some probing but I found it. On my truck it was the plug of wires right next to the camera one. I'll upload a picture later. but yeah I started searching around and found your thread @klavender1 that was what really kinda pushed me to finally get this entire thing done with. its been bugging me for a while. too many small-ish projects going on! at least now one is checked off the list.

anyone know how to get the mirror from trying to access the camera? everytime I go in reverse, I get a blue screen now on the mirror. It only lasts for 2 seconds and goes away, but still.

Was this camera done on an auto or manual truck? I do not have a reverse signal at pin 11 on plug IN1.

 

I have an auto. I have access to Toyota TIS at work. I can look Monday to see if I can find the reverse signal for a manual.

 

mine is a 2009 auto. in the 2nd pic, you can see where the connections were made by the fuse box. the bottom connector (in the 2 connector stand-off package thing) is the camera wiring. this plugged right into the camera source harness. the harness had a "loose" wire that needed to pick up the reverse trigger signal. for mine, it was in the connector above the camera one. I forget exactly which wire, but I just probed around with my meter while the truck was in park and reverse to see which one had voltage in R. I think it was a red wire right next to a purple wire. on the radio side of the harness, I had to insert the reverse trigger wire into the plug next to the camera plug port. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of this. it was tricky because the wire is so bendy. I found out the hard way that there's a locking mechanism on the plugs that when lifted and unlocked will allow the wire to seat fully. then snap it back down and lock it up! I had tried pushing the pin in the plug with a small flathead screwdriver. in doing so, I tore up the insulation on the wire, but a little tape fixed that right up!

 

I think Ive read only autos have a 12v signal there, you havet o source it else were in a manual

For the 2011, use pin 3 instead of pin 11 for your reverse signal. It's the same connector I used for the reverse signal. The connector is right above the camera feed connector. And it's a red wire.

Great post. Doing this myself now on a 2010. Got a 2013 touch screen off of Craigslist. The seller also gave me the microphone that he had in the roof. The cable is only about 3-4 inches long with the actual mic at the end. I'm wondering if anyone has access to info on finding out what the part number will be for the rest of the cable. I'm then hoping that the connection of the "extension" cable will plug into the 20-28 pin PT546-00120-CH adapter that I still need to get.

UPDATE: I got with the dealer and found out the the "extension" was not just one wire going to the mic. It was part of a major harness that one would not want to mess with. I just ended up getting the after market mic that is mentioned earlier in the thread.

Rather than making a whole thread on this maybe one of you could help me. I have a 2012 DCSB OR with the non-jbl stock non-touchscreen unit.
I am planning on purchasing a 2014 touch screen non jbl, non nav unit and wondering what parts I will need to have prior to install. Additionally
I currently have SirusXM hooked up, but I do not use it. Thank you in advance, any help would be much appreciated.
