I have had enough of 2017 Toyota’s horrible Entune system. It does nothing I want. I want to head unit that is plug-and-play that I can install myself that allows me to still control my alarm settings, trip computer, set my back up sensor settings, set my door lock and DRL settings and has APPLE CAR PLAY and will work with my stock USB port.

    Advice?

I've looked into this some and no matter what you do you will most likely lose some of the options available in the head unit and the infotainment screen. Best options from what I have seen require buying a new headunit with fit kit and a Maestro to retain most of the options. Heres a link to the Maestro http://maestro.idatalink.com/search...7&vehicle_model_id=159&vehicle_audio_id=12656

The Entine operating system sucks. At first I couldn’t do anything while I was driving because it locks everything out when the vehicle is in motion. I put in a NAVIKS Motion bypass so I can set my destination and read my messages while I’m driving, but the Entune system just sucks. The Toyota Entune mobile assistant makes using Siri almost impossible because of the delay and you can’t configure it to use the phone itself for Siri commands without disabling Bluetooth. My friend has a Hyundai Tucson with Apple CarPlay and it is absolutely perfect. With Apple CarPlay I can use my Apple Maps app that I use all the time anyway and it goes right to the head unit screen. I can control Apple CarPlay from the head unit touchscreen. I can also read and send out messages using Apple CarPlay. The Toyota Entune system is just inferior in every possible aspect, overly locked down and there are no Entune OS hacks to gain root access to the system. I do not like having system that I cannot use and less I am at a dead stop.

As a FF/Medic I’m happy it locks people out from fucking with it while driving down the road. Last thing we need on the road is more people fucking with the radio along with cellphones. Safety is paramount and Toyota gets it

Thank you Gamebreaker81! Do you know if it’s possible to patch the CarPlay link through the factory USB? I want to have a wired connection with CarPlay.

Frankly I don’t care what you’re happy with. If you don’t have any information to provide get off the thread.

Well, if you end up a smear on the road, regardless of your fault or another, you'll probably appreciate his opinion...think ahead. Might not be him, but one that thinks like him.

Yes it is. However, we all already know texting/fuxing with the radio while driving is dangerous. OP has evaluated the risk and wants to do it anyway. Isn’t freedom great?
