Anyone running 3rd gen TRD Pro skid?

They claim it will fit 2005-current Tacoma's. Seems to be a real skid plate instead of the 2nd gen skid that was paper thin and only for looks. Anyone running this? Any issues?

 

sounds like the TRD skid thats been an option since like day one of the 2nd gens. Nothing new, and not really much of a better skid, hangs down rather low.

 

It does seem to hang a little low but it is 1/4" which I'm sure is thicker than the 2nd gen skid.

I don't do as much hard off roading as I used to and I don't really want the weight of a steel plate. I also like not having to worry about rust with aluminum.

 

Most run 3/16 which is slightly thinner than 1/4. I have seen the 1/4 offroad skids on a few third gens at work and they are designed quite well, but a third gen skid for a second gen i got nothing

No, thats the lame-o second gen tinfoil one. Hes speaking of the third gen skid. If you are lookig for a 1/4 skid op for the front of a second gen go with bamf or armortech, both offer 1/4 and better armor coverage.

 

3/16 yes but in steel, he is talking about aluminum. There are a few companies that make 1/4 steel but they are super heavy. Most aluminum Off Road skies are 1/4 so this should be good for light off roading.

 

The 2nd gen skid fits 3rd gens so I would bet it works the other way too. But honestly for the cost you could go with an aluminum skid from @Pelfreybilt, @Mobtown Offroad, etc.. for less money. It will also be better suited for off-roading, and capable of adding additional skids down the road.

 

I recall seeing 3rd Gen Tacomas installing the 2nd Gen skids when I had a 3rd Gen and browsed the forum. I would think it works the other way around, however I'd be interested if the oil drain opening lines up. It would just be silly if not.

 

Our 3rd and 2nd gen skids are interchangeable. The only difference being the oil filter access on the third gen skid plate. If you put a second gen skid plate on a third gen truck, you'll have to drop the skid to remove the oil filter. Not a huge deal for some but if I had a steel skid plate no way would I want to drop a 68lb piece of steel every 5k.

 

I was told that the TRD 3rd gen skid is not interchangeable and will not fit the 2nd gens by a dealer/vendor.
