You swapped a 5VZ in for your 3RZ? Alright what's the story. Lol.

Oh I'm still reading through your build.
So much to try and remember and explain I'll do my best. Everything is in my build. But for me I went from an 02 to an 03. I searched Car-parts.com for all my parts. I got most of everything from a TRD Double cab taco. First off the motor mounts didn't line up or the transmission mount because of the transfer case. I fab up new mounts and welded them in. I had to get a new ecu that wasn't a cali ecu. Re wired the entire truck completely from front to rear. Added a fuel filter on the end of the fule lines in the engine compartment.

Oh yeah the bell housing that mounts the tranny to the engine on the transmission are different. The starters are on different sides.

I got a 03 ECU to run the 4x4 and 5vz and Re-wired the cab. Added the 4x4 control boxes. I think there was 3 of them under both kick pannels in the cab. I also had to re-wire the engine compartment because there is a fuse in the fuse box that I needed to run the drive by wire throttle body.

I also added long travel too. I'm getting ready to chop the back off and 4 link the rear with trailing arms this year.

Ah, the engine swap it kind of what facilitated it since you had to run a new ECU anyway. How long did it take you?

Took me 5 months to buy parts and put together. What happened was I lost my 3rz. Cracked head or block. Didn’t take it apart to check but I had coolant in the oil. Figure I just do the swap. Then in the prosses I talked to my wife and suggested to do the 4x4 to the truck because I needed it for the Colorado winters. I no longer lived in San Diego where 2wd was fine.

Thanks! I'm glad I went with the Off-Road wheels instead of the Sport, I've seen a few 1st gens around the city with the 3rd Gen Sport wheels and they just don't look as good as the OR wheels.

Hopefully when I get back I will be able to sell my Off-Roads. With how good they look on earlier models, I don't think that will be much of an issue.

February of 2019.. still got some time. Also have no idea where they are sending me next, but we have Idaho, Washington, and Hawaii listed as our top choices.

Must be weird seeing a Tacoma in Europe, has anyone pointed that out around there?

Not so uncommon around the bases. There is actually a dealership that sells them right outside the gate so I have seen a couple of them. Most of us don't want to buy European (even the hilux) because we don't want the import troubles. Now when I get a little bit farther away, people do get excited. I have caught more than one family taking pictures next to the rig.

I didn't even realize they sold em outside the US, even used. You ever see any 1st gens?

Would be badass to have a diesel Hilux in the states though.

Yeah. I see one of the chaplains rolling around in a first gen, so I know they are out there

Any suggestions on how to figure this out? Bout to order the entire front end from someone and he assured me he could provide a 4.10.
