Cheap/Free Mods

Will anyone here, know how to do that fog light mod for a 2004 Tundra? Because my friend after install the HID on it, the fog light did not work. Please help, Any info will be great.

Next time just PM me since I maintain the list. Anyway, fwiw I removed that second option since that thread may not exist anymore, and inserted rcbs204's pre-made harness thread so people can order them cheaply.

 

Added Crom's side turn signal write up. auxiliary side turn signal repeaters / markers Looks pretty good! I usually have to sorta just "push" people over when I need to change lanes and they're too dumb to notice I need to get over. As it is I always thought it was stupid that the stock front signals were in the center, completely hidden from anyone next to the truck.

 

Not sure about you but whenever I put a water bottle or similar bottle in the front cupholders the arm that swings out and is supposed to hold the bottle in place moves very easily and really doesn't do it the job way it is supposed to.

I added 2 layers of shrink tubing on each arm and it actually holds it in place like it should. The arms can still close normally but not as easy.

*In the pics you can also see some foam I added to the ends of the cupholder, this took away some of the interior rattles I had.

 

That is a pretty good idea. I hate those cup holders. They only seem to hold drinks from fast food places. Bottles just do not ever seem to fit.

 

I usually have a rod or two in my truck bed but it takes up space. I figured if I looked around at a hardware store I could figure out how to mount them to the bed rails to keep them up out of the way of the bed itself.

While at Lowes I found some 'J' type hooks with pre-drilled holes in the garage organization section for $1.47 each. These would work, I just needed a way to mount them. So I went over to the hardware section and found some screws that would fit in the holes on the hooks, and some washers to keep tension from inside the bed rail. To make the install tool-less and secure, I got two wingnuts. Total cost was under $5 and was done in the Lowes parking lot with no tools.

Parts needed: 2x'J' hooks, 2xScrews (sized to fit pre-drilled holes - mine are 10/32x2"), 2xwashers, 2xwingnuts



Note - I ended up with two different sizes of washers, one for the height/tension from inside the bedrail but the opening was larger than the head of the 10/32 screw. So then I got another size with a smaller opening than the head of the screw. Washers were about 15 cents each, so I got a few just to see what fit.

Installation: Put the washers on the screw, smallest washer towards the head of the screw -


Then slide that into the bedrail and adjust for length and placement -


Slide the 'J' hook onto the screw, then put the wingnut on and tighten by hand -


Your finished product should look something like this -

basically where toyota was suppose to give me a net for my center console and didnt i put rubber bands in an x patteren and one going acroos the two top slots works perfect and saved me around the hassel of deaing with the dealer and 20 bucks all for free

 

Thanks for the writeup! However I bumped into a problem. I received 84652-04141 part and tried to install it, it works but the intermittent speed dial gives speeds opposite to what I would expect (slower speed on wider end of the strip). The switch doesn't have part number imprinted on it, only a paper sticker showing "04141". I am thinking did they send me 2009 switch with a sticker on ? The imprinted symbols are 17E301, these seems to be some kind of ID. Does anybody else has this problem ?

I thought the wider the bar, the longer the delay (and thus slower speed).... Maybe I need to look at my 06 and see how that works.

 

Oh may be I just need to think about it this way .. May be there is no problem after all ..

My poles are to long for this I only use 1 piece Rods....Awesome idea though! I will do this when its trout season though, my ultra lights would fit perfect!

 

2nd gen Ebrake Adjustment:


I just found this 2 min ago, and I'm totally pumped since I needed to address this! I have a manual so its really easy for me, an auto might be a touch trickier.

So, for a manual:
Remove the 3 cup cup holder directly behind the shifter. This requires grabbing it and pulling straight up. There is a tab on reach corner holding it in that will release with a slight pull.
Look down and you will see a Y shaped set of wires. The 2 splitting off go to your brakes, the one goes to the pull lever.
To increase tension tighten the bolt that conects the lever to the brakes. To decrease tension loosen it.

For an Auto:

As far as I know the only difference here is that you will need to remove the whole shift assembly. Not sure what that entails, but I would imagine it just snaps in as well.

This is the result of a SNAFU with Toyota engineering. To fix it grab a 12"x10" squatre of rat-wire or other mesh, a phillips screw-driver and two zip-ties.

Open your hood and move to the bottom pasenger side of your wind-sheild.

Look at the bottom corner of the black plastic piece that runs along the bottom of your windshield and locate a black philips screw.

Now: That isn't really a screw, its a black plastic clip like the ones that make your grill/headlights connection. To remove it twist 90* and push up from the bottom. Once it pops pull up from the top.

That removed you can now pull up on the bottom edge of the black piece to pop it up. Open it up until you have access to a 10"x4" opening.

If you look inside there you can see your air filter. -No wonder it gets so dirty! You can also see two pre-drilled holes on the bottom edge, looks like something was supposed to go there, but never did. If you see stuff down there you can shove a vaccum in to clean it up.

Double over the rat wire over so that the squares are opposite, making the mesh as tight as possible. Place over the opening and bend to completely cover the top and sides and put a zip-tie through both holes.

Reinstall everything and while your at it clean your air filter.
