UN Lifting 2016 Tacoma Sport DCSB

Hmm. I'm about a total of ~4 inches over stock height (2" lift + 2" taller tires) and pretty much maxed out the height that my 5'2" wife can get into (even with my sliders). So a 5' tall SO would be maxed out in OP's truck. Definitely won't be able to make it when I eventually go to 35"s. I guess a step stool is in my future

Do you guys just throw it in the back or where do you store it?

My girlfriend is 5’2 as well. I’ve had some massive trucks, so she doesn’t complain about the taco. Partly because the roof line of her X5 is taller than it lol

 

Two stools maybe? Duct tape them, one to each foot? Always available!!

To be perfectly honest, you’d be wasting your time removing the bilstein 5100’s. without going to deep into it, all the valving internal of the shocks is the exact same as the bilsteins that come factory equipped with the TRD off-road. Only difference is you sit a tad bit higher in the front than a stock. Side by side to a stock height Tacoma on uneven ground I doubt a regular Joe would even notice. Only owners of the same year / model / package are going to be the guys looking that hard at you.

 

Reading information on the thread linked by @Clay7160, and the other link above, I'm finding interesting things. My front shock is 24-239270 which is actually the part number for the 2015 and earlier Gen 2 Tacomas. The correct PN for my '16 should be

24-263108. While I find extended length/collapsed length reasonably similar with a bit more travel, the Gen 3 version has 5 settings, (0, 0.65, 1.1, 1.55, 2") while the Gen 2 has 4 settings, (0, 0.85, 1.75, 2.5"). I'm trying to figure out what setting I am on, I can only see 2 rings: one below, one above, so I am guessing I am on 3 which puts me at 1.75 inch. I am guessing that ring #2 on my current configuration is hidden inside the bell so to speak.
Checking the PN for the Gen 3 5100 rear, it appears that I do have the proper PN for the 2016 which is

24-186728 which is also the PN for the Gen 2. Does anyone know any different? I saw several postings of folks who have '16 models, and have used the same PNs as are on mine--meaning they have the Gen 2 shocks on their Gen 3s.

So I'm looking for input on my part numbers now, and what position my fronts are actually on. I am pretty certain that I am on 3rd setting, out of 4 possible settings. (confirmed, 3rd setting of 4)

Now, are my front coils stock? I have cleaned them off and looked over carefully, I find no identifying marks on them anywhere on either side. Does anyone have a way to verify this? Anyone know what my coil diameter should Mic out at, cause I can check that, and compare against a known reference if anyone has one. I'm pretty sure that my rear leafs are totally stock.

You have stock coils, if it were old man emu coils the spring perch would have to be at bottom setting.

A lot of guys when truck was new bought 2nd gen bilsteins before they released the 3rd Gen. as well those same guys aren’t having any issues with them.

Secondly the previous owner put a block in the rear , so obviously he was on a tight budget. Therefore again stock coils haha.

 

Well, I have spent considerable efforts in the past "Un-Boogering" stuff done by the PO on various vehicles. The fun part is figuring out all that was done, and how, and then learning the way it was supposed to be done, and then doing it myself. I am still juggling whether or not to restore to stock height, and if I do, I suppose it would be as simple as removing the rear lift block, dropping the front shock to bottom setting, removing the diff drop, and then go get the Truck properly aligned.

I'm on the fence though about this because I really do happen to like the stance.....so I need to factor in figuring out how to make the present lift as safe and proper as possible. A question remains about my UCAs. Do I need to purchase aftermarket UCAs? Is there an adjustable/indexable/offset Upper Ball joint so I can press out my current upper ball joints and press in new offset joints to make sure I have proper alignment specs? I'm pretty sure that replacing the upper ball joints would be a lot less expensive than entire new aftermarket UCAs.

so many people missunderstand that concept. Also miss the same concept when calculating tire width and offsets when going to a bigger tire.
Before I got my taco I came from that stupid car scene where guys try to push wheels as close as they can to the fender wells.

The setting you currently have in the front Does Not require new UCA’s.

Does your truck need an alignment, maybe, maybe not. Depends on how the previous owner drove it and how many pot holes he hit.

I, as well many others have lifted Higher and still had alignment within spec on stock uppers.

UCAs come into play with tires wider than 265, as well non stock rims being fit onto truck.

Spend the 75-125 if you like at alignment shop and see results and take action afterwards.

 

I suppose at 265/70s I'm safe on tire size. My truck did recently get aligned, but I don't have the paper that tells me I'm all green/in spec. If I keep my lift, I do have to go thru HI RECON inspection, which requires alignment papers done and in spec within 30 days of the RECON inspection-among a list of other things...... Once I make a final decision on keeping the lift versus "UN" lifting it, I want to have the parts on hand to do it with minimum downtime. You may notice I live on an Island in the middle of the Pacific, and while the weather is warm, it is very very challenging and expensive getting things shipped here, and of course it can take a while too for the boat to get here.

I've spent a few more hours laying under the truck, looking at things, and napping. Lotta napping. Took a pillow under there wimmie and a sheet of cardboard to lay on. I also did a bit of running around, shopping stuff to Home Cheapo, Blowes, COSTCO, and of course the Mall. I drove around the parking lots and made sure to park next to other Tacomas. My truck just looked bigger, better than all the stock ones I parked next to. Funny that every time I came out of the store, those Trucks had moved on. I suppose they had to have been intimidated. At least that's my theory. So I think I'm keeping the lift. At this point now the next effort is to make sure it is legal w the State of HI, specifically the Fiefdom of Oahu, County of Honolulu, and its feudal lords, so I'll go visit my favorite alignment shop for a look over and advice, and likely a wallet biopsy, then roll down to the Recon station and see my buddies there. Yeah, it's like spending quality time at the DMV or with TSB and CBP at the airport, or getting a colonoscopy, but if I can get this over with by the end of Feb at least, I'm ahead of the game and I can work on other things The Dragon Lady is enthusiastically exhorting me to do.
For those chronologically mature TW members, you will recognize immediately that "enthusiastic exhorting" is code for applied B@#^hing, but being married since 81 to the person I met and started dating in '74 in High School (7 wonderful years of marriage), I've had a lot of sharp corners rounded down and can roll with the punches and not show the bruises. So I can sell it to her by saying it would cost too much to reverse it as it will disrupt the Turbo Encabulator, and I'll get on all fours so she can step on my back to get in the truck as needed. Disembarking will remain the standard "tuck and roll" technique, to which she is accustomed. I love my life.
