Interesting... because by tilting the front diff, you're definitely lowering the height (in relation to the rest of the diff) of the fill hole...which is obviously a negative when you go to put oil in. If there's really no benefit at all for the CV's, then it seems that this mod should never be done (and yet seems relatively popular).

 

Yeah I know. But so are 5100s and eibach on trucks with no additional weight haha

It can help with drive line vibes. But that's about it.

I've been running one for over 90K with no ill effects.

 

Yeah, I've had mine on for ~25K now with no problems (and it's covered by the skid, so not affecting clearance at all). I was just curious, if it really didn't change angles at all. I did find this thread, where the pics at least appear to show different angles.

 

Yes, it does lower them a bit. Just not enough to satisfy Mr Monte.

I think it is important to point out that a diff drop is not a solution for too much lift in front. It will not 'save' your axle boots when you have 3+ inches from Eibach/Toytec coils on 5100s.

 

It's right at the level where it's effects don't outweigh the effort to install it, same with removing it. It is so benign you might as well leave it in for the positive vibrations it lends to the placebo effect.

 

Interesting you mention vibrations. I installed it because of vibrations. Front end vibes after lift. And it worked to remove them. They were from the inner boot fins touching. No placebo. They stopped touching.

 

Im thinking of running a 35x10.5 for the spare? Not a full 35x12.5

Same thing likely could be fixed with the solid bushing replacement ECGS offers. Really doesn't matter one way or the other as long as you aren't looking to have your skids completely tucked up as much as possible.

 

What tire comes in that size?

 

I've bashed my BudBuilt's in many places but not there. Not an issue.

I don't think I've ever seen that size before. BFG does make a KO2 in 34x10.5-17 but I've read it runs small. More like 33.5".

No one makes a tire that size. Just run a full size. I have a 35x12.5 on my swingout.

 

Those are slightly different than the mounts on my '98 but those both (both sides) broke on mine years ago. And my bumper is held on just fine and straight (with only the four 14mm bolts)
