So after fixing the errors, it appeared everything combined across trim levels pretty well until 4Lo.

I am still miffed by the 4Lo in the ORs defaulting to TRAC-OFF, where the SR/etc default to TRAC ON.
It seems that generally the modes across the board default to high level of traction, until you get to the 4Lo OR models. Why make the trims designed for maximum traction, default to min traction in the maximum traction mode?

OR Manuals have a good work-around by the latching A-TRAC switch, so that when going into 4LO, they don't go to the default TRAC-OFF.
OR Autos don't have a good work-around to this issue as far as I see.

Figured I'd repost this video from June last year of me climbing some off camber stuff, in case some of you missed it.
Watch what the truck does when The front wheel comes off the ground. This is in 4lo with no button pushed.

A nice, steep hill climb in Colorado Springs, after unloading the bikes I wanted to see what the truck would do.
This is 4lo, no buttons pushed, steeper than it looks.
The truck had just finished a 17 hour drive from Nashville, TN, only stopping for fuel. I love this truck!

Why is you bumper trim black and your flares white? Is that how all SRs come?

Truck has no fender flares, it's just painted steel.
This is the "convenience package", includes back fold up seats, painted bumpers, and a sliding back window. I think it's a decent looking truck for $25k and has everything I needed, and a few things I could live without, but have grown to really like.

They should just have an "OFF-ROAD" button once you put it in 4hi or 4low. I guess "Crawl Control" is the closest thing on a AT.

Crawl is a low range only cruise control. MTS would be the selection in low range, In H4, Trac Off is maybe the best choice on loose surfaces but I would need to drive a 3rd gen to see if Trac Off is the same as it is for 2nd gens.

All of this is very informative. It’s got me thinking. If an sr5 owner adds an aftermarket rear locker, is there anything wrong with turning on the locker and not turning “TRAC OFF” in 4lo or in 4hi for that matter. Or any other of these modes that should be thought about and turned off before turning that rear locker on?

When you lock the rear diff, it would not be affected by traction control which only is activated with wheel spin, so one tire does not spin freely.
Once locked, both tires are rotating the same so one spinning by itself can't happen.
You would want traction control on the front end to make both tires work at moving you forward.

On my 2010 Off Road, in H4, TRAC without engine regulation is the standard mode (renamed TRAC OFF in 2012 and needs a button push) works on all 4 tires. In L4, there is no traction control other than A-TRAC (which is a far higher level of traction, almost like lockers). You can lock the rear with A-TRAC on or off. A-TRAC in that case only works the front and as with any traction control only works if there is tire spin, but with the rear locked it is only active below 3 mph. When the rear diff is not locked, there is no speed limit on A-TRAC function. However, you are in low range, so not driving fast... and wheel spin usually means you are stopped or nearly so.

I still have not been satisfied learning if TRAC OFF MODE is the same on 3rd Gens as it is on 2nd Gens. ??

gotcha. That’s what I figured but wanted to check. Also, What I’m trying to figure out and what I’ve gathered from this thread is that on my 3rd Gen Sr5 4x4 in 4lo, if it says TRAC OFF on dash my traction control is disabled and if no light is on than my traction control TRAC is enabled. This is what I’m thinking. Is this correct?

This tread may help explain the 3 rd gen traction control. The first post is up to date with all current info.

If the light is off in 4wd low, traction-brake applied- is functional.

If dash says TRAC OFF you tires will spin.
