Help finding brush guard

I'm in the market for a brush guard since the country I live in is swarming with deer and I have an hours drive to work every day. My first brand new truck and I'm terrified one of these deer will decide to play chicken one morning. I see some setups aren't compatible with the skid plates? I prefer not to remove mine if there are any that will combine with each other. Can anyone recommend a good site to purchase from?

A brush guard will make damage 10x worse if you do hit a deer. A steel bumper is the only way for actual protection, ARB's are famous for it.

 

Westin hdx. Extremely well built and you can add a winch if you want. I live in deer country and found it ti be the best for me.

 

Try adding one of these with the brush guard.

Have you actually hit a deer with that thing? Light-duty tubes with a couple of dinky mounting points will do nothing against an animal strike. There is a reason those Aussies run ARB bull bars with all them roos running around down there.

 

First of all looks like he hit a moose with that FORD. I have hit many deer without a grillguard. I have had transformer series . sure if you want to spend 1000.00 to 2000.00 for a bumper go ahead. The guy asked about grillguards not bumpers. I did a shitload of research before i bought this guard. Appro. 600.00 on sale at autoanything. So thats your opinion. besides I haven't seen any roos in north amercia.

 

Don't know where you live, but I live in WV, the deer strike capital of the US. Yes, we are number one at something. In addition, I live in the highest deer strike COUNTY in WV. Yea! As I am typing this, there are five deer in my front yard munching away through the snow.

With that said, anything mounted to the front of your truck is better than nothing in a deer strike. It could be the difference between limping home in the middle of the night on a back road with no cell service, or having to walk out. While that grille guard does not offer the protection of an ARB bumper, it does offer some protection, and that might be the difference you need to get home.

So before you offer your opinion, you need some fact. Sure, that grille guard is not gonna help in a 35 mph crash into the back of a semi (hint: neither is the ARB) but it might just keep a hind leg from going through your radiator.

Hell, mount a two by four out there. It's better than air, which is what he has now.

 

Im with hiPSI. I also live un WV and drive a work vehicle with grill guard. In past 6 years i have hit approx 3 deer. Cant remember if its 2 or 3. All times the grille guard ate it and car was spared. Grill guard readjusted and back on road. I recently purchased a Steelcraft grille guard also from Autoanything.com. got ot for 327. 00. Got it installed yesterday on my 2017 Tacoma. Looks great. Now im not stupid i could hwve a deer strike tomorrow that crushes my truck and renders the grille guard a failure but based solely on my experiemce with them on my work vehicle it helped. I could only hope that if i do have a deer strike or any for that matter the guard helps but i know that nothing is full proof and it may not help at all. But at least i tried but not guaranteeing anything as i know better. Good luck

Deer smeer, Elk crush things going highway speeds and weigh more than 2x than your average roo. The problem with them is that they are tall, so the main mass is at windshield level.

We used to have ferral burros where I lived before, a couple Driving the local highway hit an adult burro going 55mph, and like an elk, the body was at their windshield level. It went through their windshield and out through the back window, eviscerating it’s innards all over inside the car. Neither the guy nor the woman were injured, as it went between them. A bull bar or guard wouldn’t have helped them a bit. Bars can throw deer up into the windshield too, so getting one shaped more like a sideways deflector is best for large animal strikes.

Here is the problem, though. You look at how those brush guards are mounted. Two weak points towards the bottom of the guard. Anything that hits it head on, you're enacting max leverage on it. Now, for low-speed encounters, say <10mph, maybe that will help. But who hits a deer going 10mph? We're talking high speed strikes. 40mph+. You hit anything of that size going that speed, you're going to need something designed to take on a hit like that. We're not just talking a 200lb deer. It's that weight, the weight of the truck---at speed. You think some lightweight aluminum tubes will stand up to that? The term "BRUSH guard" should be a dead giveaway here.

This is exactly like folks thinking running boards will keep rocks and trees from crushing their rocker panels. They are both damage MULTIPLIERS.
