What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Not my Tacoma but one step closer to bumpers. I put a new gantry bar on the plasma table because the old one was super wavy and caused huge inaccuracies.



Only a little fine tuning with some of the programming left and I'm down to +- 0.01"!!

yea there is a main feature i need badly. I wish didn't have to worry about salt but oh well. And you gave very good points as usual Monte might as well spend the bucks and not have to worry about it.

Now its just the decision of cutting my losses on the uca's I just got and go LT or buy extended coil overs and be call it good until next year or 2 lol.

 

Well. Long travel is a big hole.

You need fiberglass fenders. Plus you should look up local laws on tires and mud flap laws and such.

If you do that. You'll want better rear suspension to keep up.

Then you'll start go too fast and you'll have to gusset everything.

Should take into account the extra width depending on where you wheel.

Long travel is no where near as simple as middle travel in many ways. But is fun.

 

At the moment I don't wheel but its because i want the truck finished before I do. Also the rear suspension does have me confused on what i can use (thinking about your setup actually lol) its the execution of doing it really. I know for a fact now at least half the tire needs to be covered but i don't need front mud flaps just rear. But the big rule is lift but a tacoma won't be able to reach that limit even with a extreme drop bracket lift. I think its around 8"-10" lift. But i could be wrong but i know for a fact that our trucks can't reach it for what I want to install. So pretty much what I'm doing is copying your suspension lmao sorry its just you have a awesome kit. I'll humor you and put "Frankenstein's bitch" on the bumper (probably on the inside part of the bumper)

 

I'd stick to Mid-Travel for this reason alone, no need to go down the rabbit hole at this time. A lot more money as well, I'd get your truck to a good point (mid-travel) and use the hell out of it. Then if you wanna go LT then you can still get money back from your used suspension parts

Your truck was ready to wheel the day it rolled off the lot.

You should be wheeling it so you get better at driving it and then you'll also get a better understanding of what you want the truck to do which will help male decisions for you in terms of the build. You'll also appreciate every mod more seeing first hand how it helps improve the experience.

Has anyone tried using 2nd gen calipers (13WG) and rotors on their 1st gen
I've been looking with no luck
from what I read from @Low Range Off-Road it should be doable and be about equivalent to the tundra swap

Awww damn it i shouldn't have put that sentence in there. And your all right it is a big line of BS. I'll buy the extended coil overs and see how she is before jumping to LT but im pretty sure like 90℅ that I want LT. But to save the time I'll try MT. And monte when I bought the truck 3 years ago it had the stock suspension and the coils were sagging bad and the shocks were beyond blown. The suspension was done by the leaf springs practically lol

If you're talking about the BadLands offroad park no. But i want to get into the overland and camp at remote places around yellow stone for example. Also montes is cool but it breaks cause it's made from over a dozen different trucks and monte just goes "oh well F it"

 

Go 'overlanding' with what you got - see what you like about your rig and what you want to change - build rig to suit those needs.

Id never do that poser crap. Reason why i lifted it in the first place was cause suspension needed to be redone for one and two i live in the woods witch means dirt roads and my current job to get to it i drive through a literal mud track. Its why I call myself "what road" lol I guess if you want you can call that wheeling but i can't see it that way.
