Fan speed switch not working.

Pull the plug under the passenger side that hooks to the fan resistor. Look for one of the wires to be discolored, also look for a discolored spot on the plug itself. You can find pictures in this thread to show you what you are looking for and also how to fix it.

Okay the Blower Motor Resistor ( part # 87138-04052) was bad, changed it out with new one now work again!

 

Did a thing on Sunday (Watch video below)...had a bunch of water come over the hood and get sucked down through the vents (had water on passenger floor mats). Fan was working ok for the rest of the day. I noticed my Fan stopped working on all settings the next day though. AC light still came on and Recirc as well. Could feel the compressor kick on when I turned the speed dial while parked as well. So everything was working fine other than the actual fan kicking on.

Took out the resistor and ran a multimeter across it. Everything checked out fine, cleaned it and reinstalled. Tested fan again and nothing on all speeds... Brought out the trusty Dodge repair tool and smacked the blower motor housing 2 times, while fan was on High. Everything went back to normal. TLDR: Fan stopped working on all speeds. Used hammer, issue fixed.

 

Bump, looking for an answer. I know this thread is about the fan only working on high. My fan on my 07 recently has been acting up. While driving yesterday I had the fan on the 4th position. At random times the fan would shut off for 10-15 seconds and then come back on. This morning after letting it run and warm up a little before leaving, I was pulling out of my driveway and it shut off again for 10 seconds then came back, the shut off twice more before it started working properly and didn’t shut off until I shut it off myself. Anyone have a clue as to what’s going on?

 

Bump, it’s completly out now. Only off of high, A/C works though. Anyone have pics of removal of the resistor? The original photos are gone?

 

its only the heater thats not working? the A/C works on all speed?

Both A/C and heater work only on high. I said off because I concider that a setting, if that confused you.

Thanks. Seems Toyota is 2nd cheapest out of the three I’ve found for replacement. Dorman’s is a DIY, and Bosch is $52, my local dealer said $38.50 and has it in stock. I’ll be purchasing either later today or tomorrow and replacing. Seems super easy judging by pictures.

 

Okay thats a bad Blower Motor Resistor ( part # 87138-04052). Might want to check to make sure its the right part for the 2007.

That works for my 07, and looks to be true OEM, probably gonna purchase now.

Looked on Rock Auto as well, cheap one on there for $16 but it’s not OEM, for only a little more, I think I’ll settle on the OEM one.

The other thing is it hasn’t been working all day and now all of the sudden it will work on all settings, should I replace or is something else wrong? Could it be going out slowly?

 

Have you pull the white connector that plugs into the blower and looked for signs of overheating like this? It may not be your resistor.

But noticed the blue striped white wire coming from the resistor plug has overheated and burnt the plastic before.

 

I bought both the new resistor and the replacement plug. If you read back far enough in this thread you’ll find that Toyota upgraded the resistor at some point. Turns out my truck already had the updated resistor and the plug was burned pretty bad. I went ahead and installed them both and have had no problems since.

 

Do you by chance have the part number for the plug itself? Is the plug like the short harness with the plug or do you have to rewire the new plug when you get it?

 

I had to replace mine. It lasted maybe 3 months. I said fuck this. Farmer fix: Shove some tinfoil in the burned out plug. Reinsert. Done. It’s worked for me the last year or so.

 

I just used the numbers that were on this bread. Ordered from Amazon. The plug itself is basically a pigtail. You have to cut off the old plug and solder on the new one. Wires are all the same color, so pretty hard to go wrong. Not too difficult. To me the hardest part was getting the screw started when putting the resistor back in place.

 

I have been having the same problem with my 2011 model Tacoma A/C only working on high for about a two years now. I keep about a 2ft piece of 1/2" PVC on the passengers side floor and when I need to lower the A/C I switch it to low and use the PVC to tap in under the dash and it kicks on low for awhile. Every once in awhile I have to tap it again when it stops. I will replace the blower resistor and clean the cabin filter to see if it fixes the problem.

 

That made me laugh out loud.

It reminded me of when my son was small and when we went on long trips he would get tired of traveling and want to pitch a bitch. I carried a yard stick and used it the same way to quiet things down.
