You can always use a different offset wheel or add a small spacer to push the skinnier tire out a little more to give the truck the "stance" of a 285 tire.

Not a fan of the stuffed marsh mellow look 285s give the truck, especially if it hurts performance more than it helps.

Yeah I’m aware of both, I consider those as well as the toyo RT a hybrid tire, they’re more aggressive than most ATs. That is what I meant by saying the toyo is the only AT.

I'll be putting tires on in March and have been comparing 255 75 17's. I don't do any crazy off roading. I've pretty much decided on Cooper A/T3.

Here's a pic of my first gen with 235/85r16 Toyo open country. For on road they work fine but I've only had them a couple months. So far better breaking and take off, there is sway on interstate corners but just slow down a little, and zero hydroplaning which is great. Haven't taken them off road yet but looking forward to it. Had KO2 in a 265/75r16 and for this truck that size/tire just seemed too heavy.

Can’t wait to hear how the mpg are affected by the ‘lightweight’ 255s.

Okay. New to this thread, so I apologize ahead if this is covered somewhere and I missed it. I have a 2017 TRD OF DBCB in complete stock condition. Love the pizza cutter look and functionality. But I'm not a fan of "cutting" or "trimming" a brand new vehicle. Will the 255/85 16 tire size fit on stock wheels without lifting and without rubbing? And if not, how much lift will I need and/or other modifications?

@SearArtist I think you could answer this man's question since you were running 33s stock.

What about the Maxxis Bighorn 255/85/16
That's what I'm running right now.

    Trying to find the weight.

Really disappointed that the BFG K02 255/80-85/16s only come in M/T. Looking for a A/T in that size, and hopefully only a C load. :benchpress:

And specifically with the Mountain Snow Flake.

    Awesome thread Leah (@LadyRed)

Then they wouldn't be KO2 they would be the KM2 or whatever their mud terrain designation is.

255/85/16’s fit fine on a 3rd gen Off Road without issue. No rubbing or trimming needed.

Look at the Cooper ST Maxx. Great tire, although a bit heavy, probably your best bet for a 255/85/16 size tire.

Secondary smog pump mod done. Cali Raised ditch lights and amber fog lights installed with On off switches installed in 2 of 3 factory blank slots!
im throwing on a set of 255/75 17 yokohama all terrains tomorrow (G015 I think they r called). biggest reasons.....much more selection than a 255/80, one of the least expensive tires out there and...... 38 pounds each!!!!!!

There's a pretty awesome thread with pics and info on nearly every tire you can find in that size here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/put-255-85-16s-on-stock-or-wheels-and-suspension.491079/

posted this in the other 255 experience thread but seems this one is more active:

What UCA's are people running with 255/85r16 on stock OR rims without rubbing on the control arm? I have a 2015 TRD OR and getting ready to install ADS ext. length coilovers and Dakars. Trying to decide on UCA's. I was leaning towards JBA but read that 255s will rub UCA with stock rims. So its either get new rims or wheel spacers or find a new UCA. Has anyone had issues running 255s on stock rims rubbing UCA at full lock with certain aftermarket UCA's?

Does anyone run Total Chaos with 255s on stock rims? JBA recommends 4.5" BS rims to clear the arms with 255s or 1.25" wheel spacers if I want to stick with stock rims. Does anyone have any pics of 255s on 4.5" back spacing rims ?

    Damn this stuff gets confusing

    Thanks

Ohno......I didn't realize that JBA needed that back spacing. Damn it! I really don't want to do spacers, but I may have to.
