It's a sad day, but I need to get sell my new Tacoma....

I just got my 08 Taco maybe 2 months ago... Its a base truck, but I absolutely love it and it was suppose to only be used for work but i wound up using it more then my other cars! I got a set of rock crawlers and BFGs and the tuck looks great all black. But the bad news is, I now need to get a truck that can tow my Dodge Viper to the track a few times a month. So i am considering a V6 Taco, or Tundra, or possibly a Ram with a Hemi. So far i have no made up my mind, but I need a new truck soon, and i put my Taco on Swap a Lease if anyone wants to see it or is possibly interested. My payments are only $230 a month and the truck is mint with 2,200 miles.

Thats not that bad of a deal, sounds like you have some toys to play with.

 

I'm just mad I need to get rid of since I just got it and liked it. I am also not happy about having to raise my payment.

I am strongly thinking about it. My only debate is, if I am getting something to tow, I do not want to be close to the limit of capacity if i was to tow a different car or buy a new trailer. A V6 taco should tow my trailer and Viper just fine and a tad under the limit. But if i got a Tundra, I would get a a 5.7 and the Dodge would have the hemi and they can both tow 8-9k lbs, so towing would not be an issue. But then again, If i can make do with a V6 taco i would save $$. So this is why i am confused and mad I need to do this all over again after just buying my new Taco! ugh!

 

I'd definitely stick to Toyota, the Tundra is cool but they're a bit too big for me. Besides, the V6 can tow great, observe:

How much does the Viper weigh? How much does your trailer weigh?
How far do you have to tow it?
Have you ever towed before?

I had a Dodge Ram 1500 for about 3 years. I towed a built Jeep Wrangler on a trailer (total 6500lbs). I towed twice a month (2 hours one way) and a couple long distance trips with it (12 hours one way).

The tacoma can handle anything up to it's 6500 towing capacity (get the towing package) - but - my only concern would be long-term wear/tear on the transmission if you're towing regularly and for long distances. My other concern would be, the 'controllability' of the Tacoma versus a bigger vehicle.
The heavier/bigger the vehicle is, the easier they are in handling the load. I also towed with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the difference in controllability between the Grand cherokee vs the Dodge - was HUGE. With the Dodge, you couldn't even feel that you had a load back there.

If you tow with the tacoma - make sure you get one with the towing package (transmission & oil coolers).

 

hey man, that pic isn't photoshopped if that's what you're thinking. i haul my dad's backhoe all the time. that pic was taken when i got a job with it during my spring break from college..... i wasn't about to turn down an opportunity to make money. i hauled it arround a few days last week too. The Tacoma really can tow quite a bit. its waaaayyy underestimated what these trucks can do.

 

Stick with the Tacoma man! You loved your base model, imagine the V6's capabilities.

Dude if you dont want to sell your truck, just buy some upgrades for it, like an intake, exhaust, and possibly a supercharger if they make them and headers, all of those add HP and could allow you to tow the dodge viper you lucky dude

 

Having the extra horsepower isn't necessarily a benefit in towing.

On my Dodge Ram, I already had a dual exhaust and I put a CAI on it. After installing the CAI - I lost a lot of the low end grunt/torque that you need in towing.

I removed the CAI 3 months later.
