I think newer cars are this way. I have no IDEA why... I also hate the way this works, It was never an issue with me when I was living in CA since I never needed it, but now I am in Colorado... It has been triggering my migraine and it pisses me off.

I would constantly switch it ON and OFF, just so I can have visibility

Does not work, tried that. even if you set it in the middle of the combo and floor setting... fogs the hell out my windshield still.

Fumes aren't near as bad if I crack a window for a few minutes. I have AVS window visors.

My wife's new CR-V EX isn't like that. You can pick if you want fresh or recirculate while on defrost.

A day like yesterday it wasn't enough to keep the windshield clear from fog on the inside and ice on the outside.

I did see this before I posted. I am hoping someone that knows more about wiring chimes in before I just start yanking wires!

I really have a hard time if there is a diesel in front of me. Especially the ones with the 10" exhausts that have to "roll coal" because they are a-holes.

I drove wifey myself and 2 slobbering panting dogs in my truck on the day you're referring to with no issues using floor and defrost. Hour+ travels twice even once at evening time. Are you being a little dramatic or what?

This drives me crazy as well. There's nothing worse than being stuck behind a diesel on a cold winter's morning when you need to defrost your windshield.

OP This drives me crazy too! The only solution I've seen is keeping the air on recirc, setting it to "face" vents, and then close them all. The air then gets forced out through your defrost vents.

Sounds to me like the OP has way too much moisture inside the truck.... From snow on his boots, etc..... Then keeping recirc on, it has no where to go...!

I get so much snow and slush in the weather techs some times that when I park the truck, I throw down a bunch of paper towels overnite.

In the morning I remove the frozen towels and I'm good to go....

If it's a real cold day (-25 or so), the defroster has a hard time keeping up with all the water in the mats.....!

AND.. the only time I use the FULL defrost is warming up in driveway..!! I then change to floor/def

^x2! I sure wish there was a way to use defrost without the AC on.

I am currently running one of these filters. It works better than the BS “charcoal/bakingsoda” filters that do absolutely nothing for smells. One con of this filter is speeds 1-3 definitely feel like they blow not as hard after I have had the filter for a while. I can’t say for sure on the exhaust smell because I don’t smell any exhaust fumes so maybe it is working or maybe I just haven’t been behind a stinky vehicle yet.

I say it’s worth a shot for some of the guys who have issues, it’s a much better built filter than the oem in my opinion.

No problem! I’ve slowly been buying different cabin filters to do a write up on all the different ones out there. This one is my favorite so far even with the performance hit on the air flow, the air smells cleaner to me, maybe I’m just weird.

Recir on defrost setting will fog windows that is reason why it defaults to fresh air. I rarely run recir even with AC on. It has to be really hot

SR5; you have the manual A/C right?
Do you have the temp maxed out?
It's supposed to switch to recirculation mode when you do.

Yes, manual A/C. You are saying that with the A/C on and the temp maxed, it will switch to recirculate???? This will be tested tomorrow!

Maybe not...might just be for the max cool position.
Honestly, I've never really paid attention either way.
