Instructions: How to replace driver side cubby with switch panel!

This thread will have which switches and panels needed to do the mod WITHOUT removing the lower dash trim.

END RESULT:

STEP 1:

Pop out the trim by simply using a pry tool to get the clips off

STEP 2:

Remove four corner screws that is holding the cubby.

STEP 3:

Align switch panel and install the same screws you removed on the same spot that the cubby was attached to. (Again, sorry. Don't have picture)

The switch panel I used was from Cali Raised LED. Here is the link:

They are only $15 at the time of this thread and be delivered within a week. A lot of people seem to link the Shapeway website, but that is a bit more and will have a lead time.



STEP 4:

Install your switches and start wiring!

Each switch cost $10-11 from both websites.

Size of switches from Amazon: 21x39mm
Size of switches from Cali Raised LED: 20x39mm
The amazon one was pretty snug, which I like. It still goes into the panel but if you are having a hard time, you can just file the sides of the hole on the panel a bit. I did not do this, nor have I ran into anyone else on this forum with an issue.



Final Step:

Pop the trim back into place and you are done!



*I created this thread since a lot of people have been asking about it lately. I didn't take pictures of my install since I didn't know there was so many people still posting threads; asking about it and half of the replies were telling people to remove the lower dash trim.

If there is already a thread that compile all this information, please delete.

The switches are cool with back led but I wired straight to battery. I heard both sides to this but I guess I am going to have to wire to a HOT line but I am not sure which to use. All the wires are so tiny. I am kinda afraid to touch it. Any suggestion?

I had a local shop did my wiring since I didn’t have tools to route my roof rack LED, but my LED came with a wiring harness. It has its own kit that went straight to the battery with a fuse mini fuse box and my switch was connected to the wires that were meant for em.

That switch looks like a CH4x4 size. Caliraised used to make a panel for it, but since the other one was a lot more popular, I think they stopped production for that switch panel. You can try Amazon to see if they have it.

The panel I had on the original post is not plastic so you are aware.

 

It was never taken out. We were talking about the rocker panel switch that holds ch4x4 switches. That is the OEM switch panel that is on my instruction. The reason why they probably sent an email out is cause they made the panel that I had on my original post only about 3 weeks ago so it’s fairly new, but they Never marketed it. I just found it by chance when I was looking for their ditch pod bracket.

 

Anyone know if there is inserts for buttons for this open middle section?

 

There definitely are, that's where the A-Trac, traction control, and locker switches are for models that have those options.

My understanding was only manual transmission trucks had that, but I see you have a Limited which is automatic only. So I guess only the manual Off-Roads have the sunglasses holder. I love mine!

Maybe a dumb question. but do all switches come with the short pig tail wire harness and plug, or do you purchase it separately?

I also have a possibly dumb question, as I haven't added extra wiring and switches to a vehicle since around 2002...

Do any of you all use relays in these light circuits, or do you all just wire these switches directly inline with whatever hot/power source you use? Back in 2002, when adding a couple extra sets of various lights to my previous truck (non-Toyota), I wired my switches to relays (which I added), which were directly in the power circuit. Just curious...

I'm waiting on one to be designed. I have the locker one already there and I'm moving the rear window switch so that it's next to sunroof controls.

That will work for most of the buttons, but the rear window one is slightly different mounting points than the regular buttons, plus I have sunroof controls too .
