I mean you're getting a 4.7l for free. There is no reason NOT to put that shit in the taco.

All i'm saying, it store it well for now..and starting doing a lot of reading and research before jumping into that. For instance, i've never seen a 2uzfe swap that the tacoma didn't have a 1'' body lift on.

Put some dirt miles on the truck first before staring a big project like that. Thats a full winter project. Summer is wheeling!

And when you do tackle all this amazing stuff, you'll know where to come for help. We all try to be here for each other and help as much as we can. Hell, last year we had some guy break down and another member that had never met him before happen to live near him, drove out to him and got him back on the road.

I didn't read anything wrong guys, just seeing a lot of negativity about somebody proposing a V8 swap. Maybe that's the fun for him, wrenching. I see a lot of other guys wrenching.
One dude in particular has been doing nothing but modding and very little wheeling because he thinks he's not expo enough to hang.

Everybody saying don't do it, has never tried it.
Would you all have spouted off if Monte had said he was doing the swap? Obviously he won't, but do you get my point?
    How about @SilverGhost ?
That guy did a 4 cylinder to v6 swap and took a prerunner and changed to 4x4, and had absolutely no idea what he was doing, and did a fantastic job.

    Because he had positive reinforcement.

No negativity at all, I'm swapping a 350 and 4x4 in mine, of course I still would've said something. And I'm long travel, I know what's it's like. I had my truck for a year and then I started modding it. I got a good job, ran out of time, and now it's been on jacks for almost two years. And now I'm paying for it sending it off to a shop to get finished just so I can drive the damn thing. Again, no negativity, just warning him of all the things that we went through, and how we would've done it differently, so he can spend more time in the dirt than down.

Monte has two other Tacomas to drive while one is under construction.

But I hear both sides of this. "Do what you want to do to your truck" and "these trucks are incredibly capable of 90% of the off roading and over landing that's done."

I appreciate it guys, for the encouragement and reality check slaps lol. Do you all think the axle and drive shaft swap is needed or can the tacoma stuff handle what I will have

It should be fine. The tundra uses the 8.4 diff as well I believe.

Isn't the tundra wider though? don't think he'll be able to slap on the entire rear axle assembly.

nah. Just trying to get him to take small steps instead of one giant step to do it all at once. If you don't get to use the truck/car your building every once in a while..you loose focus and understanding of why the hell it is you started it. Happened to me when i had a supra. Instead of just fixing it i had to go big and do a full engine overhaul, go for a big single..all that shit. Never finished it.

The tundra uses the same rear diff as your tacoma. That said..wouldn't hurt to upgrade at some point. But for now, wouldn't sweat it.

6'' wider total. But again, same diff so no real point to swaping the axle unless you do a full rear LT setup at some point.

My smartass comment was probably not the right approach, but @what road has mentioned multiple times previously he wants to build an 'overland' rig.

If he wants to build a LT, V8 1st gen, go for it, but if you want an overland rig, go overlanding first.

Look at all the people that spend all the time modding their rigs to the current cool trends, and then never use them, or use them once or twice and loose interest, etc.

Ok, I didn't plan on full LT in the rear really. I was mostly wanting to have the front and rear tires about the same in width without using spacers

I promise to do this project bit by bit guys :D I'd hate to lose interest in this truck like that.

    .
I have found, for me, that the build is more fun than anything.
You're right, sometimes you reach a point that interest is lost. I've had the Taco for 17 years, the build gave it renewed interest for a couple years, but now time to move on.
The Tacoma hasn't moved in 4 months with the exception of Brandon's toaster recovery. Full concentration has been going to the Tundra build and future camper mod. The Taco might be up for sale one day.
