    I pinky promise I searched. And if it's here - and I didn't see it - then I'm a goof.

Anyone relocate their rear view camera? Could it be as easy as patching some 12g or 14g wire into the existing wire run?

Where do you want to relocate the camera too?

On this, or around it anyway.

Makes sense why you'd want to relocate ... was going to say I think it's perfectly positioned

You could probably just get another camera, leave the one in the tailgate and do a quick disconnect similar to the one that is on the tailgate to tie into the existing wires. Then just run wire wherever and mount it. Zip tie it to bumper or whatever. Weld a little bracket to hold one on it with a little shield to help prevent water/dirt from getting on it.

Right, good idea, and kinda what I was thinking. Instead of a second camera, I'd just patch more wire into the existing camera pigtail, between the camera and the factory disconnect. Is that kosher though? Will the camera play nice with wires patched into the middle of the pigtail?

    Nope, cuz I'm old.

I mean keep the tailgate one disconnected, use the same quick disconnect to connect a new camera. I'm not sure how easily the factory camera would come out, or mount elsewhere. Though extending the wires should be no issue, you wouldn't be adding that much that it should be a concern.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but do you have any more pics of that tire carrier? or a review?

It turns out this whole thing was a lot easier once I actually put may hands on it. I pulled the tailgate topper off, as well as the inside bed skin, to get to the camera. A couple 10mm bolts and some plastic anchors and it came right out. Ran the camera up through the empty factory plate location and bolted the camera and housing to the relocated plate. Used some washers to stand it out from the plate so it would sit straight. Took less than 10 minutes and cost 3" of electrical tape, 3 washers, and 4 zip ties.

What did you do to seal up the hole left by moving the camera? And is the camera protected where it is now?

I'm mostly unconcerned about the camera harness. The exposure of the harness at the camera is exactly the same as the exposure of the harness at the truck side of the pigtail, which lives completely unprotected next to the spare tire, along the bumper. That said, I did wrap the exposed wires at the harness with electrical tape back to, and covering, the end of the plastic loom. I zip tied the tape to the harness jack and the loom. There is a downward facing hole where the camera used to live. Not sure what, if anything, I'll do about that.

I'm about to change my set up. Mounting off to the side, off center, led to many bad parking attemtps. @Pelfreybilt has a camera moutning kit I just got that inludes mountable tabs to hold the camera. I'm gonna try to do something a little more centered.

Nice setup! Did you have to adjust the angle of the camera? I.e once you moved it above the license plate, how is the view of the camera?
