Does anyone actually heal toe with their Taco?

I rev match at least half the time though. I find its much more enjoyable . Sounds pretty good stock too

 

I've been very impressed. Huge upgrade over stock.

it's f*cking annoying since they shortened the gas pedal after the floor mats TSB... but I do it sometimes.

I remember getting my floormat stuck with the gas pedal on the hwy ... Luckily, my truck is manual so I just had to hear my rev limiter as I pulled over. That day, I took a hand saw to the gas pedal. About 3 years later, I got that TSB in the mail

 

Didn't know it was THAT bad eh. So you have no problems to heel/toe even with a short pedal? Maybe my feet is too small or something

Because the gas pedal is so short, classic heel toe is not a viable option. If one's feet are wide enough, braking with the left side of the foot and rotating the foot along its long axis to blip the gas with the right edge of your foot would work.

Third choice is to brake with the heel or arch of one's foot and blipping with the toes. This is the way I choose to do it. This took quite a while for me to get comfortable with, as all my neuro pathways are geared to do it in the classic manner.

Fourth option would be to order aftermarket pedals. Not the clip on variety, but ones that install by drilling your stock pedals and install using self tapping screws or self locking nuts and bolts.

I'm just plum lazy, and rejected the after market pedals. Too much work in a very uncomfortable position.

 

i Just got the dewalt mechanics toolbox from Costco and that’s too big for the cab, any recommendations for storage? If not, any recommendations for tool kit set that would fit behind the seats?

 

Hey guys, can someone explain to me how to effectively use the rear differential with a manual tranny?
So you have to be stopped... in 4 low. Then hit the button and play with friction point?
I didn't buy manual to off road, more to have fun but still curious how best to use the tools of the truck if required.

With the MT, it seems easier on the clutch to use 4Lo instead of 4Hi when dealing with steeper climbs and descents.

 

I have small feet. 9-1/2's. So, I just brake quickly depress the clutch as I'm braking and then rev match while I'm shifting gears and go back onto the brake as the clutch comes out. My version of heel toe...

 

My clutch smells if ive working hard in 4x4....

Exactly.

It does smell bad and just like my bike that had carbon fiber friction material. The good part is that stuff wears very well.

 

The stock clutch in our trucks IMHO is not all that great. I am relatively sure it will be my first major repair with all the towing that I do. I am really hoping that @BigMike has plans to make a clutch set for the 3rd gen trucks comparable to the ones that they offer for the older Pickups.

 

Nothing wrong with doing it that way. It gets the job done.

 

Why do you think the clutch isn't reliable and long lasting? Gen 1 and two are very long lasting. Toyota isn't going to put crap in the gen 3.

 

There are a bunch of members with 1st gen manuals that are still on their original clutch, 200k+ miles later. That's a long time for a clutch, the mechanic that last did mine told me he sees most clutch replacements on manual vehicles come in at around 90k miles.

It'll last a long time if you treat it right....mine gets abused quite a bit so I doubt it'll make it to 100k lol.

I think Toyota clutches are built to last, but they are plagued with quirks like chirping throwout bearings and squeaky pedals, etc.
