Hi I'm a recent member of Tacoma World and owner of a new Tacoma TRD Sport 17.

Was wondering what is a cost effective/reliable lift for this truck?

Also, thoughts on wheel spacers...do the negative effects I've read about outweigh the positive looks they add?

Depends on what you plan to do. Wheel spacers are a no go for me if you plan to offroad. If you are just trying to lift for looks just go with spacers/pucks. Other than that, if you want your tire to stick out get wheels with the right offset and for a "true" lift, you will probably spend $800+ on just the suspension kits for a decent one.

    Toytec BOSS lift

Wheel spacers are up to personal opinion. But if you get some, get high quality American made ones like Spidertrax .

Thank you! I'm looking to do offroad but nothing to crazy.....local beaches. Will look into spacers/pucks for now and probably bag the wheel spacers until I can afford some wheels.

If you get new wheels, you won't need wheel spacers. Just get wheels with the correct specs to move the wheels out where you want them.

If you want to start off slow and save money then get some bilstein 5100s. That’s where I started and had them for a bit.

How much lift to you want to achieve? How much do you want to spend? I'd stay away from blocks and spacer lifts unless you want your new truck to ride like shit.

Bilstein 5100 shocks and OME 885 coils along with a add a leaf in the rear would be a way better setup and is less than $800

Yeah was just thinking the Toytec Boss Lift is awesome but a bit of a jump for me. I want to give it a more aggressive stance and be assured I'm not putting something on that will negatively effect my truck in the long run.

5100’s all around. I kept stock shocks up front, and did a 1” block in the rear.
I have off-roaded my truck HARD, just took it on a 4,000ft climb yesterday on a very rough terrain road and my suspension did nothing short of amazing. I will upgrade soon as frequent trips as such will probably take a toll, but for a weekend warrior kind of deal it does great!

Very nice truck! I'm almost positive I'll be getting the 5100's.. they provide the lift I'm looking for. Is your grill dipped? That will be another mod I'll be doing in the near future :)

Yeah go with the 5100s but try to get the wheels with the offset you want instead of the spacers imo. Good luck with the build.

Yes sir! Will be upgrading grilles here soon too. The 5100’s do great paired with stock shocks up front. I did a 1” block in the rear and it rides great! A little bouncy on the road so AAL or a Leaf pack may suit you better!

5100's are shocks, so you either have 5100's up front or stock shocks not both. Are you referring to stock springs by chance?

What else did you add to your truck lift wise when you started out and how long did yo run the 5100s?

Started off with 5100s all around with the front set at .85 so it leveled it out with the rear at stock height. I had the 2nd gen 5100s since they didn’t have the ones for the 3rd gen at that time. I ran them for about a year. Now I have Kings set at 2 1/4” lift up front w/Icon billet UCAs and Icon 3 leaf AAL with 1.5” lift in the rear w/King shocks.
