So, it appears the Uhaul at 3026 Florin Road is running a scam that counts on customers not checking the fuel level or odometer before they leave.

I rented a cargo van to help a friend move some stuff from Lincoln to his new place near Highway 50 and Hazel. This was our route:
    1. Uhaul to Lincoln
    2. Lincoln to Hazel/50 via Sierra College Blvd/Hazel Ave
    3. Hazel/50 to Florin/Freeport
    4. Florin/Freeport to Uhaul
Contract noted a full tank, but was actually 3/4. I returned after driving about a mile to let them know there was a discrepancy, which was recorded in their system. Scam #1 averted.

Here's the fuel scam: If you fail to catch the discrepancy, you end up either giving them a free 1/4 tank or paying for the 1/4 if you happen to do the math later and return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel you had when you left. They will point to the contract that indicates the vehicle had a full tank (that you accepted when you left) and charge you for the fuel. If you dispute it, they will tell you to contact corporate and file a complaint.

The mileage scam: The out mileage (odometer reading when you leave) is entered manually and appears on your contract. They can enter whatever they want. If you catch it, they just chalk it up to fat fingers or whatever and correct it. If you don't catch it, then you start off in the hole. In my case, about 70 miles (@$0.79/mile).

When I left Uhaul, I set the trip odometer after a couple miles, maybe 4 or 5. Trip odometer read 87.x when I got back. The guy that checked me in said I did 162 miles.

When I brought up the discrepancy to an employee, he checked the out and in odometer readings for all previous customers for the month. Magically, every out and in was on the money, not one was even off by a mile or two. Zero discrepancies. That suggests that van never moves unless there is a customer in it.

Using their calculations on the contract, I needed to put in around 6 or 7 gallons to cover the 1/4 tank I used. I put in 7.33 gallons, which registered a little over the 3/4 mark.

So, if I went 162 miles like they say I did, that means that V8 van was averaging around 22 mpg and would go about 650 miles on a full tank.

I chatted with someone at corporate. Waiting for a call from regional manager I suspect I wont get. I'll be calling again on Monday.

That looks like a really nice drive, or place to drive to at least. I have a friend that has shown me some pics of bike trails in the parks there and it looks amazing.

If this is anyone here, we are practically neighbors. I’m on the east side of Oki Park.

My wife doesn’t drink beers that are as dark or heavy as most of the ones I like are, both we can both agree on one thing. We discovered together on our honeymoon that neither of us like hops.

My wife goes more towards lager and ales.i drank way too much Miller in my youth, so I burnt out on that.anything but corona, that was her beer when I meet her. Got her drinking better beers now. Hopsy is a good store to check out for local beers and she likes picking out new ones to try.its fun.

Beeradvocate.com is a solid reference. I like tasting beer more than I like drinking it, usually. I still keep *pint glasses in the freezer cause sometimes there’s nothing like a good cold one.

Sucks. All kinds of people out there nowadays. Last time I used uhaul I rented a car hauler and the guy didn’t even know how to hitch it up. Had me and my friend do it so I don’t count on him being smart enough to run a scam.
