I will be vacationing with my wife and 3 year old in Chimney Rock, NC from June 15-20 and then we will be camping outside of Uwharrie 21-24. I am looking for local info on fun things to do with my family in both areas.

So far while in Chimney Rock we hlplan to stick around the national park and Chimney Rock area. Another day adventure we plan to do Biltmore House in Asheville. Another must I want to do is Mount Mitchell.

While camping outside of Uwharrie we obviously plan to enjoy the trails in the Forest. Will want to spend one day or evening in Charlotte to enjoy the city life.

Trying to compile info in this thread on fun things to do in both of these areas. Any info on the trails in Uwharrie or any other hidden spots to enjoy like water falls, hiking trails, restaurants, or fun things we have to do while in the area.

    Thank you for any info.

Thank you. Been trying to find time to read those 40 pages to get some info. I may that and see if people want to meet up that Friday or Saturday to wheel with me while there. We are prepared to wheel solo if need be on June 21 or 22 which is a Thursday and Friday.

You wont be solo. Especially if you like Jeeps :bananadead:.

You can camp off the trail in URE or reserve a spot at Baden Lake. Its a nice view and well maintained camp ground. I dont remember the price per night. Not a bank breaker.

The owner actually traded me my un-split firewood for some that he split. No alcohol but thats fine with me.

The first post and then the last page are all you'll really need in the URE thread. There are fire roads you can ride down in the Chimney rock area up in Pisgah Natl forest but it's just driving around to find them don't really know much more than that. Gorges state park is abt 1:30 s of chimney rock there is a neat easy trail to ride and a nice camping spot at the bottom right by the river. You are going to be right in the middle of so many places to go and explore it's hard to tell you what not to do in those 5 days. It's a lot of pretty country out there.

Was that in the park? You have to reserve through the Nat'l park service to camp in the actual park at Badin lake.

There is camping at Yates Place which is free and an easy walk to the hiking trails and not to bad to get to the OHV trails either.

Correct on registering with the National Park Service. Yates is an option too.

Gotcha. We camp in the park normally, but the wife wanted a lake view last trip and that's what she got.

Yeah just don't book group sites damn those things are expensive. That part of the park is quieter and the trails around the lake have some cool views .

Ive heard about some random fire roads near Chimney Rock which I think a buddy is supposed to find when he gets out there the day before. I will look into Gorges SP and see if that's something we want to check out.

If you don't mind the drive there are 2 rds that are interesting class 4/5 Richland Rd and Hurricane creek they are not that hard to do. You are abt 2hrs give or take to those 2 rds. There has been some recent heat at Richland rd from people getting onto private property and tearing things up.

Gorges St park. Around page 22 or so starts the pics from our big trail ride trip. the first page has some.
