Meguiars Mirror Glaze #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0

Been online reading @ Autogeek.net as well as here.
Man there's alot of info on wax, paint sealants ect.

So bottom line, I've found, by users smarter than me who detail cars, that I need to add a sealant on my truck AND THEN a good carnauba wax if I want a "protected" "deep" "glassy" and most important "LONG LASTING" shine on my big bad black beauty. After much investigating, Meguiars #21 is going to be top of the line ($20) as far as sealants go (available in my area).
So this weekend, I'm going to go at it. Wash, a coat of Maguiars #21 and finally Maguars Gold Class. - I will be back to post pics.

My question.........Anyone use Maguiars #21 ??

I'm positive I'm not going to be disappointed in anything maguiars has...just interested in what you have to say guys.

 

OMG! i use dish detergent all the time when i wash my truck like once a week! what do u guy recommend for a cheap price?

Lol. I use Megs Gold Glass soap, cheap and works great

 

I used the clay bar from mothers, did an oustanding job !!

Dude, spend the $2 more and get some real auto soap that will clean the dirt off and not kill the wax already on their. Dishwashing liquid is NOT made for washing a vehicle.........but does a damn good job on that pan you just fried up some green tomatoes in .......MMM MM Good !

 

TO THE OP: Ive never used that sealant, or any for that matter, but like you said, Megs makes great stuff and I don't
think you'll be disappointed. Let us know how it goes though.

And a quaestion...your supposed to wash, then seal, them wax?? What purpose does the sealant serve that they wax can't provide? And I'm
guessing sealant lasts longer than wax right?

I wax my truck 1x/month but have ne'er really looked into sealant. I may have to now...

 

FYI: Yout truck is probably stripped of Any paint protection it had. If I were you I'd give it a full exterior detail. Clay bar it to get
rid of the crap that's stuck directly on your paint (wash won't remove this). Then wax it.

 

Get on autogeek.net and read about wax's and sealants, there's tons of good info on there and most of these guys do it for a living. There's a big difference. From what I've read, and this is the short version. The sealant will provide a protection against alot of things that kill wax, like HEAT, RAIN, washing truck often and of course dirt. Once the sealant is on, waxing brings out a deeper shine that will last longer so no need to wax every month like me and you both have been doing.

Nope, just needs some TLC now. He's tellin you right. Go get a clay bar kit from mothers or meguiars and go at it. First, get the car wash soap !!
Wash that thing like it's never been washed before, clay bar it and put atleast one coat of wax on it. (you'll notice they recommend you wax it after a clay). That thing will glisten like you aint never seen it.

Claying took about 20 min to do the whole truck, it's easy as can be.

This is mine one week after I got it. Paint felt ruff when you ran your hand across it and it needed waxing. After claying and 2 coats of wax, it looked like glass !! Check it out.

I use # 26 yellow, Super stuff highly recommended! I bet the #21 is good stuff also!

Looks great Phoneguy, Pride of ownership shows! It really is a labor of Love! When I bought mine (new2010) I used a clay bar, washed, waxed and sealed, it looked really good!

Makes the difference in a head turner and just another truck goin by

 

So as promised, here's the update. I was pleased with Meguiars #21. Note, I am not a professional detailer but I am a person who can read and follow directions. As I said before, I learned alot on autogeek.net and I'll share it all.

First, remember that I did Clay Bar my truck about a month 1/2 ago, IT DOES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE !!!!

Washed every square inch of the truck VERY VERY VERY good so that I had absolutely nothing but paint so spread the sealant on. Shammy'd truck dry and then drove it a mile down the road and back to get rid of any excess water hiding in the cracks........Meguiars says to apply it on dry micro pad, not a wet one.

In the shade applied a thin coat of Meguiars #21 Sealant. It says to let dry for 15 minutes before wiping off with micro towel. I did half the truck and then went back and starting taking it off.




I have waxed many of my cars MANY times so I know what I'm talking about when I say this stuff was SUPER EASY to wipe off, not like a wax at all.

I put it on everything from fender flares, headlights, tail lights, side mirrors, front bumper and rear bumper (chrome only).

Now one thing I do want to point out is the residue you leave in the cracks and crevasse's, like the rubber on the fender flares (see below). You can pinch that towel all you want and try to squeeze it in there but you just cant possibly get it all so check it out. There is an easy way to get this !! Called a paint brush. I went to Lowes and bought a 5 dollar paint brush and cut the bristles down so that it would be stiffer. HEAR ME NOW, it's easier if you just stick this thing in your pocket and hit it as you wipe. Seems like its harder for me to get it off if I wait till i have the whole truck done and try to go back and get it. I wind up missing a spot or cant get it cause it's stuck on there like cement. A toothbrush scuffs my wax job.




Now how you wipe it off is up to you and I know you're not an idiot so dont think I'm saying you are. I just like to have one towel in one and and another in the other. That way I keep my hands off the truck (prints) and if I get tired I can go at it with the other hand.

Last but not least, the final results ! This is a sealant so the shine is not as glossy but I've now prep'd my truck to apply the glossy wax. Thats my next step next week. This sealant will allow my wax to stay on longer and I wont have to keep doing it once a month like I have been.

washing, claying, sealing and waxing took me about 6 hours.

After following his recommendations and 6 hours of detailing just the outside, I am looking for a professional deatiler in my area

 

Another good sealent is Optimum Opti-Seal. Just wipe on and walk away, no need to remove it and no white residue. I can do the whole truck in about 20 min. You use very little, the bottle will do about 50 vehicles.
