I'd like to know if there are any trucks out there that check all the boxes of things we want. I'm not aware of any.

And all of the things you want aren't ever going to be all of the things I want.

I'm excited for the next few years of the midsize truck market. Competition will be good for all of us because we'll get more options.

I'm generally a fan of competition and there are a few areas where Toyota could improve. My worry is that the competition that may exist may end up on the softening side and more techno / gizmo creep? This is a big reason that I am glad that I got a 2017 and not a 2018.

The Ranger marketing sounds a lot like push button offroading, such as engaging 4Hi when selecting certain terrain modes. And, VW is teasing a Ridgeline copy.

It could mean the Taco goes down the crossover path?

If they did go down that path I doubt they would use the Tacoma, they would probably do a different nameplate and use that awful A-BAT Concept as a platform.

Or use it as an excuse to bring the Hilux name to the US?

When Nissan flipped the Pathfinder to unibody, it was years until I saw one rolling down the road. I do see a lot of people are holding on to the older Pathfinders.

I do that on occasion too, but mainly grab for the handbrake under the dash that is not there anymore.

I have done that as well.

Odd how quickly we develop habits. My Taco and the wife's Rav are both push button start. I moved the mother-in-law's 2010 Camry, had no trouble starting it with a key. I swear, I must have tapped the dash 4 or 5 times looking for the button to turn the engine off, before remembering 30 seconds ago I had to use a key.:rofl::rofl:

    Fresh gas.
I've reached for the Dash handbrake too.

And that's AFTER driving a Titan for a few years between Tacos. No reason I should have been reaching for that dash park brake.

I didnt read the entire thread but would like a 3.5 "ecoboost" option like the F150. My friend has a 2016 F150 and while both of our trucks have a 3.5 mine feels like a turd after riding in his truck. His truck is bigger, faster and gets basically the same mpg as my truck.......its depressing to think about lol

It used to be with the left foot push on the Driver side panel. I still kick at that once in a while too, but have a 04 frontier that has the brake in that location.

In all honesty Ive never been an American car guy. Never owned an American car but really liked the F150. The only reason I purchased the Tacoma is because we wanted a smaller truck to camp/fish etc but we looked hard at the F150 for a year before pulling the trigger on the Tacoma. IMO the F150 is a nicer truck in every way, the Tacoma looks like a toy next to all the tech in that truck. Size and resale are the only things that got the Tacoma a driveway spot.

I tried the Chevy route before I got a Tacoma. I had more trouble with that thing in two years of ownership than I’ve had in 13 years of Tacoma bliss.

How convienent it would be to have manual hubs so we could leave the front unlocked yet shift to Lo and use the rear locker as needed or desired.

Backing a trailer up a steep asphalt drive in 2Lo would actually negate the need for a lower reverse gear on the current 6MT.

I can't believe there is actually a real world problem on what to do with the Tacoma gas cap.

I can't even pump my own gas in my great state of Diet California. I'm surprised California hasn't taken that option away from you Fornian's claiming it causes cancer.

    I hear ya bud.

It's a lot like cable/satellite TV. To get Animal Planet channel, you have to purchase the "100" channel package. 73 of those channels are just music channels.

And since you pay for the 100 channels to get Animal Planet, you also get the Halmark channel. So, since it's there ya may as well watch all the Christmas shows from October to February where the guy gets the girl, or the family gets to keep the farm, and thats the main endings to all of them.
