Paying $30k+ for a truck and expecting simple things like locking passenger mats, bluetooth that works, driver side grab handles etc. is not being a "soccer dad". Just seems like stuff that should be standard. I use my truck to do truck stuff when I need to and use it to drive 3 hours on the highway to work. Comforts matter during those trips.

Since I have driven a rental with Apple Car play I am baffled why it doesn't come standard.

We are all doomed.....truth- saw it on the Hallmark channel.

But really folks, it's a fucking truck.

Ok, the rest of you can continue the bitch fest.

I am going back to watching the TV, since I paid for all those channels anyway......lol

If the soccer dad's would not purchase a truck and dress it like a car we would probably still have trucks in utilitarian form. But NO!

We need more comfort and convenience while making our commutes in our big 4x4 rigs, over actual function of a truck.

If my commute was in every day traffic, and/or more than 45 mins each way, I would most certainly purchase either a commute-o-beater, or a simple car that gets the job done and leave the damn truck at home for the weekend adventures. I don't feel it would be necessary or sensible to commute in a mall crawling rolling office.

You are the $30-$40k on a truck that has been slowly morphing into what it is today because of all the extra stuff that entitled folks seem to think they need found standard in cars for comfort and convenience.

If Toyota would just bring back the no frills trucks without all of the electric knobs and switches, cup holders, Nav, TSS, carpet, phone chargers, heated this and that, and just gave us back the reliable levers and bullet proof suspensions, along with the stronger frames, better crash crumple zones and newer motor technologies, I am sure it could be had for $20k or less. But to get a locker and a manual transmission, I had to pay for the 100 channel package just to get them.

    Thanks! Thanks a lot!

Yeah, but why not just make a lower gear ratio for reverse in the first place. I feel like I’m in a race car when I reverse.

No matter how much money you spent on that, I’m sure it’d still turn you down.

The taller reverse on the Gen 3 trucks is just odd and just doesn't make sense with the 3.5's torque curve.

Having that corrected would certainly be nice. However, there are times where 2Lo is a very useful tool.

For example, towing a trailer down really steep winding streets where 1st gear in either manual or auto isn't low enough to keep speeds down for the tight corners, so the brakes can get heated up. With 2Lo that becomes a non issue. You can pick which gear works best, like 2nd or 3rd would be nearly perfect.

Then if rear traction on dry pavement is necessary, and 4wd would cause binding in curves, having either 2Lo, or 2Lo with locker would be nice. Just keep the hubs unlocked.

I do this on my 1997 F350 enough when carrying a 4500 lb slide in camper to feel it is well worth it.

Thats basically what you get with the 2Lo mod. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lock-stock-and-2wheel-low-3rd-gen-diy-mod.536677/

Hit an added button while in 2hi (which locks out the front ADD), shift into 4hi then 4lo like you normally would on the dial. The truck is now in 2lo but thinks it is in 4lo, so factory installed e-locker and MTS or A-TRAC are available as desired (for OR or Pro trims).

To go back to standard 2hi, hit the added 2Lo button again to turn it off and just select back to 2hi on the dial.

Its a little inconvenient having to go thru the 4hi, 4Lo selections to get to 2Lo, but it makes it much safer for the truck in terms of preventing you doing it when it isn't safe.
And not as convenient as another stick when driving, but alot easier mod to do than changing out the transfer case, or removing the front drive shaft, or changing out front locking hubs which has been suggested...

What the mod doesn't do easily is change from 4Lo to 2Lo back to 4Lo easily or quickly. That requires going back to 2Hi, or power cycling the truck. But it is seriously like 30 seconds max to do that.

Manual hubs would be far less complex to deal with. Either they are locked or they are not. Everything else would work the same regardless.

Actually with A-Trac, I don't know exactly what would happen regarding the brakes with manual hubs. Probably nothing with the front wheels, as they obviously wouldnt be slipping without power actually being applied to them.

I just don't fully understand why manufacturers even started eliminating manual hubs and adding buttons or knobs for the 4x4 controls.

I would be happy going back to the pull out e brake if I it means that I can get my transfer case lever back.

You must not have an MT. AT replaces the sunglasses holder with crawl control.

And do a search, the always-on 12V mod is super easy to do.
