Yeah. My bad. I get it.

But back on topic. I once had some clown try to convince me he’d made a blower out of a water pump and ABS pipe.

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 does indeed have a twin turbo. Not sure how easy it would be to find one since it was just released. It would probably swap right in other than the exhaust. But yeah, good luck finding one for cheap.

    DIY Fabricobbler.

A different approach to making your Tacoma faster could be simply making it much much lighter. Obviously this comes with pitfalls/risks.

A few questions for you to maybe help you figure out your end goals are.
I saw you wanted it to be unique, as well as faster.

    However.....

Do you want this to still be street legal?
Do you plan to take it off road or not?
    Is your Sport a 4x2, or 4x4?
    Manual or auto?
Do you want it to be a sleeper, or radical as it gets?
    What is your budget?
What is your background experience with fabrication, turbos, or even fast vehicles?

I have stock internals. Just swapped injectors for the 61# from urdusa and a 255 lph fuel pump. Tune with mapecu3. Bw s256 turbo everything is pieced together custom minus the headers basically

I would love a turbo or supercharger on my 3.5 taco. The estimated price tag would be $5-$8k- if made and/or available. The other issue would be the transmission and rear. Would it take the extra strain?

I feel like this engine couldn't take it.
And really what's the point it's a truck not a sports car.

If anything this truck needs more low end torque.

If you really want power you bought the wrong truck and need a v8. Maybe trade it for a Tundra or any sports car if power is what you desire.

9/11/2018 - For anyone who finds this thread instead of the development thread - go here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ovtune-3-5l-tacoma-twin-turbo.566390/

OVTune is making an announcement on the kit on September 15th in this thread, from what I understand.

Cheesecake talk aside, and dammit, now I'm hungry... Sorry for all of the Jerks OP. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-toyota-tacoma-v6-ecu-tuning-alpha-release.495735/ Read up in this thread. There is talk of an OrangeVirus Tune for a Twin Turbo Setup coming out. Good luck, and if you do build it, keep us posted.

The 3.5 is Dual VVT and can simulate different compression ratios by hanging valves open during compression. Also, the main problem with high boost on higher compression engines is pre-ignition Knock. This is mitigated in modern high compression boosted cars with direct injection, which the our 3.5l has. The 2015+ WRX has high compression 2.0l, and a turbo boosting at around 18-19 psi with direct injection. The internals on the 3.5l are forged. This engine was made for a boosted application. We got the NA for a reliable version for the truck.

This is all very good information with promising outcomes. The integrated headers may be slightly problematic but they can be cut and a v band could be welded for the rest of the hot side to be modified

Everybody shut up. If the OP wants to boost his truck I want to watch.

We don't yet know the limits of anything so you'll have to start small (5-8psi) and work your way up.

How much additional power can the transmission handle (also MT vs AT limits)? At a minimum you could take the factory peak torque and aim to make that much everywhere.
How much headroom does the fuel system have? You'll need a way to get more fuel in there. Preferably with the factory ECU and just a re-flash.
Boosting an engine not intended for it adds some complexity to the install. Some systems rely on engine vacuum and aren't expecting to see boost. Might need to use check valves or even a vacuum reservoir.
How much does it take to lift the heads/bend a rod/crack a piston?
We need pioneers to answer these questions. Go forward Pioneer. :proposetoast:

Welcome to TW OP. As others have said, there is no turbo kit available yet for the 3rd gen. Not sure how unique you are looking to get, but you could try mounting an engine in the bed ala the little red wagon. It would give the additional benefit of weight over the wheels. Hope this helps.
