So how do you guys do it?

I tried and I'm hitting exhaust and diff. Tried bending the brackets that centre the tire and still no luck.

Some say it fits some say no so those that say do, how?

I may have the same question tomorrow, when I try to place my 285/75/16 spare back under the truck. I have read you just really have to hit the brackets with a small sledge hammer and bend them out of the way.

as of right now I'm hitting both exhaust and differential.

Trying to figure is there a way to pull it further back towards the tailgate where there's more space.
Really don't feel like losing the bed to spare. While on trail is fine cause I just use bed rack and strap it down but otherwise I don't keep the rack on. So now its laying under the tonneau

I like the way the spare looks on top of my rack but I'm sure it's costing me MPGs. So I want it underneath as well. I would not want it on the truck bed either.

Some folk are relocating the chain assembly thingy further back but I'm not sure what all is involved. Maybe we can bend the brackets with the hammer and then guide the tire up until it makes contact and stays where we want it (further back). I'm tackling this tomorrow.

Also keep in mind that if you happen to have 285/75/17 then you are having to deal with a whole inch more in diameter. That may be why we see contradicting posts. People may have 285/75/16s and 285/70/17s and be fine, but 285/75/17s may not.

Not all 33" tires are equal. Some are smaller and some are bigger...

Duratracs according to their website is a 33" tire and fit just fine although this is a slightly used tire I got for free from a TW member here.

This is now mounted in my bed becuase I didn't like haw far it was sticking out underneath when off-roading.

Well damn...I guess it being slightly used helped it fit under there

OP, but did you hammer the metal guides out of the way enough? I'm beating on them tomorrow until they move up enough. I also have a used BFG KO2 I purchased (285/75/16). It has only about 60%-70% of the tread left so that may help me.

    they're beat to fuck lmao.

Tire hits the exhaust and then gets bumped into the diff on its way up no matter how much I pull it back it also doesn't go up anymore it hits the cross member.

Not to thread jack but what wheel set up are you using for those 285/75/16’s? Just got a set of those tires and trying to make sure all my numbers are right. I just like the stance your truck has

They are not bad...they have 2/3 of the "usable" tread left.

Only my spare is a 285/75/16. My others are 285/70/17s. So they are essentially the same size.

Also have 1.25" spidertrax spacers on.

Because not all 33s are the same size, is why I don't think it's a big deal to run a 265/75 as a spare for a 33. In 2wd its inconsequential really, and airing down somewhat equalizes the size difference off-road. You just shouldn't use the locker this way.

not the best of idea when it comes to 4x4 though. and much rather have all the tires the same size.

I saw a guy on Facebook that he took the mount off and welded it back a little further.
