That’s my thought too. Total waste of money here in the US.

Good point. I will say going through Nevada down the Great Basin hwy there was one section with no services for 120 miles not to mention the back country discovery routes in the same area. That said it’s not like I’m spending a ton of time in Nevada anyway so a moot point.

Its also way cheaper to do in a FJ40 lol. Plus getting 10mpg on a 15gal tank doesn't get you very far. But we are planning on doing a lot of longer road trips (all of route 66 being one) so itll only really be used for those occasions. No plans for a swingout tire carrier as of yet so no real storage options for rotopax/jerry cans

Ill try to remember tonight. Its basically just a piece of like 3"x3" angle (3/16th ish thick). Changing it to a third gen be simple as cutting off the angle from the tubing and welding the tube to a new piece of bent (or angle) then lining up for bolt holes.

Yeah I made that trek last year and from what I can remember there are huge signs and a gas right before & right after the 120 miles. The only time i've actually needed aux fuel is when we drove from ellensburg to salt lake and camped up skyline drive. I was tired and forgot to get gas before going up, didn't realize it was opening day hunting season and had to go almost 20 miles before finding a camping spot. Used the rotopax the next morning to get down and back to town for fuel before pushing off into moab.

Totally get on you on the 40. We are removing the stock tank and doing a fuel cell.

I've used my can once, (aside from starting fires) and it was to give gas to a dude in a jeep who thought he had enough. He was wrong. Never even had to give any to @bobsuruncle .

Only way to go for an off-road FJ40. Moving it to the rear of the tub or mounting it under?

Goal is to cut the rear of the tub and drop in the floor and then make a filler neck out the driver side rear panel. Since there's no room for spare parts and stuff, we are trying to sink the tank far enough that we could build some drawers that slide out the rear right over the tank.
