there's guys with 500k plus miles that have never touched the fuel system. unless your boosting its really more of a want than a need to have an upgraded fuel system

edit: meant 500k kms not miles. same point tho

VVT is independent of the timing. Used in conjunction with each other. Reduced flow will cause higher current draw on the pump to get it to maintain the fuel flow needed by the command for the injectors to maintain a proper AFR. On a Naturally aspirated engine, the demand won't be scaled up as much as on an F/I engine. What ends up happening is that it strains a pump which is aged. The saturated fuel filter cannot protect the injectors as well. The injectors will not be able to maintain a commanded AFR (worst case scenarios) and it will be noticed first in heavy load conditions. Open loop AFR's will be higher first. Leaner conditions can contribute to knock. Unaudible knock. The ecu will pull timing to reduce power. The reduced timing map will stay that way until the battery is disconnected to reset the maps. Without changing the pump, the map will quickly revert back to retarded timing. Reduced timing combined with poor atomization creates less mileage per gallon.

Change the pump and filter, save the pump, protect the injectors. Maintain better atomization which is more thorough combustion. Reset ecu by battery and get full timing back. Feel increase in hp because you were used to a tolerable degradation of performance over time. Be happy.

 I am cranky when I haven't had much sleep.

Either are good. Both have ethanol rated pumps. Some are quieter than others. My Walbro ~480 lph is quieter than my walbro 255. My DW is quieter than my walbro 255. My Aeromotive stealth 340 was quieter than my Walbro 255.

Good summary. And I'm sorry the post with the data was deleted. I'd have very much liked to see it.

You can do it yourself URD provides color instructions, should be able to knock it out in one day. Maybe a few hours if you take your time and do everything right. One thing people seem to get wrong is cranking the hose clamps down too tight and over time the hose breaks. Just snug them up no need to hulk them down. But like I said I’d give it a days time so that way if you need help you can come back here and people who have done it before can chime in and help out.

the filter element is not replaceable or sold, you have to replace the entire fuel pump assembly. my last trucks stock pump had 260k on it and was still going when I sold it, just don't run the gas tank lower than a 1/4 tank they last almost forever.

Those individuals need to make sure they get the right type of fuel hose for inside the tank.

@Johnny2525 did you end up replacing the fuel pump? If so, any noticeable difference?

Cool. Keep us in the loop once you get it done. I'm really wanting to know the before and after results. I'm still not convinced it's worth it so I'm counting on you. :D

Honestly, I'm not expecting any "gains". I'm doing it because ( A ) I'm running a Supercharger and am thinking about going with a smaller pulley and the stock pump is barely adequate for the the stock pulley. ( B ) This kit relocates the filter to the outside of the tank where you can maintain it.

get this hose, the one in the URD kit is kind of akward to make up and ends up with a bad kink in it. see - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/installing-urd-fuel-pump-need-second-opinion.522469/

I got the walbro pump on accident, urd sent me the wrong one but i didn't realize it until i was neck deep in the install so i ran with it... it's not that loud for what its worth

Ill be doing mine next week i hope. I may do it myself if i run the tank really low. Feedback welcomed.

I haven't yet. I'm sure it will make the truck happier. I am nowhere near lean now, especially with meth. That's my primary reason for it. It's a needed upgrade. Just need to get my other yota pal to make time so we can both do ours.

Has anyone posted up a video of the pump and filter installation? I have searched, but cannot find. Getting ready to do mine and hope to learn caveats from someone else.

I'm about to in the next week or so. When they say dont overtighten the hose clamps they really mean it.
