Recommend me a reman caliper

See title.













I went with some reman caliper from partsource and it seized after 14 months. Who makes the best remanufactured calipers? I'm currently looking at the raybestos zinc coated ones. I'm in Canada so there's penguins and polar bears and igloos and shit so they use caribou and moose to salt the roads.

Subd as well. Was going to go with ones from Toyota parts direct. $400cnd compared to 575-600 at the dealer (Per side )

It's hit and miss with calipers, I've seen cheap ones rust instantly and I've seen expensive ones seized from the parts store.

I'm not a huge fan of Raybestos brake pads, but that caliper looks decent. Lately I've been leaning towards the black coated calipers for their anti-corrosion so they don't rust instantly.

 

The raybestos ones I'm referring to are electro zinc plated. You can grab any remanufactured part and rattle can spray it. To zinc plate you would need to do it with a fully disassembled cast. I even saw a powder coated set available but I would imagine zinc plated would last the longest.

Can get a bbk just by swapping to 4runner calipers,rotors and pads.

I have been on the hunt but after reading I may just go oem for the reliability. Got almost 200k on my stock ones.

 

I've looked at that same thread countless times. Always said to my self that when the time comes I'd go for that kit. Time came and money dictates otherwise. I may go oem also. Still would like input if anyone knows of anything worth while. What's frustrating is that remanufactured is oem, just rebuilt. If we can find someone that can rebuild to actual oem standards we could get some actual life out of them. My originals lasted 155k.

Eclipse makes some damn nice reman calipers. Stay away from cardone.

Explain what seized.

Usually when a piston seizes due to rust it is because the boot ripped or tore and then you have exposed metal. Did you coat the piston with caliper grease and then reinstall the boot?

Without knowing what exactly failed or how it is hard to blame the part vs the person who installed it or didn’t properly maintain it.

Try the Napa total eclipse calipers. I use them all the time on my customers vehicles and have yet to have one fail. Cardone is garbage. All they do is spray paint the cores they get and put them back on the shelf

 

I've never removed the boot to lubricate. My understanding was to replace the caliper, grease all moving parts (slide pin, back of pad inside piston ring, ect) is it necessary to remove the boot and grease the piston?

 

No. But if the boot is ripped that is what allows for corrosion to grow. I would chock it up to shitty cardone calipers before an installation error.
