I have a 2010 Prerunner that has a camera mounted in the handle of the bed and screen is located in the rear-view mirror (really hard to use). There is not a lock located on the truck bed handle and I would like to be able to lock the bed. Can a lock be installed in the handle and still retain use of the camera?

Pop and lock makes one. I just ordered it and hope to have installed soon. It looks like a direct fit and has a knockout for a camera.

My 13 limited came with camera and lock I am surprised that all models don't have a lock standard.

Sounds like you bought it used and that lock is aftermarket. They didn’t have oem locks on tailgates until 3rd gen.

Several different options depending on what you want and what you want to spend. They have models that will code to your own truck key, and you can get them color-matched to your truck's paint code if you want. You can spend anywhere from $50-$120 depending on the model.

Your lock must be aftermarket. Toyota didnt offer a lock for any 2nd gen.

The pop and locks are notorious for breaking internally and locking you out of your shit.

When I have things in my bed I don’t want stolen I just back up so close to my garage or a wall or a bush or a car so you can’t get to my tailgate. :anonymous:

Gotta keep the side latches lubed... discovered that the second I installed my P&L - it was real tight to pull the handle and release the latches. Problem was the dirty latches on the side of the tailgate - they were all dirty and gummed up. Cleaned them up and lubed them and the P&L now works free and easy. And it's plastic, gotta take it easy... I'd bet most of the problems are due to user error.

User error!? Its a tailgate latch, how gentle do you have to be? Poor/cheap design imo

I totally agree it should be a metal internal part, which would solve the majority of issues. But based on my use of the P&L, it works perfect if properly lubed.

(Kinda jacking the thread kinda adding to it)

I believe I have one of the Pop and Locks on my Tacoma. Might be a different brand, couldn't say for sure. While it is clearly aftermarket, it is clean looking. I think you'd like it!

From what I've read they are typically keyed to your regular car key. Mine slides in nicely but it doesn't seem to want to turn. Makes me think the original owner decided to use a different key when keying it. Or do these things require you to turn the key pretty hard? The last thing I want to do is break a key in there but maybe I need to just hit it with my purse hahah.

I just put a pop n lock in 30 min ago. They do seem fragile. I have a topper that locks, but the tail gait would still open. I wont get locked out when it breaks.

The painted ones are notoriously shitty paint. Just get a black one

I'm happy with my painted one thus far. It was an extra $20 over the raw black ABS... to each their own.

Same situation here. We put the P&L on in anticipation of the locking topper (which is now in place). Had a tonneau on there previously, and I will admit, I was a little worried initially about what would happen in the meantime if the P&L broke like everyone says they do. Not a concern anymore. And again, to anyone who may read this... CLEAN AND LUBE YOUR TAILGATE LATCHES!!! Best piece of advice on the P&L I can give.
