so i'm up to mod #300 or something at this point, but the one that is ongoing, never done, is the shift knob. next step is some new way to clean up the look for me. i have it on this high riser and it's great for me, but aesthetically a bit challenged. the leather is a short cut. if i could lathe some metal i'd get a seamless riser, but instead i'm using a riser that only looks good when you can't see it... hence the wrapping.

 

What is the thread pitch on our shift knobs. All my trucks I have owned I used beer tappers but the threads are smaller. I need to make an adapter or something. I say nothing like having your favorite beer as a shift knob.

I used this to clean up my 3D printed threads to get the knob down as low as possible.

 

Haha! I am trying to not look at my wish list. There were a couple stragglers, like the rear diff breather, that kept making me looking at other things. Now that it is done, I'm trying to stay content.

The accumulator delete is sort of dangling out there.

 

i haven't forgotten about that, and meanwhile I'm still planning to try removing the return spring. I've just got so much crap going on and dealing with anything smeared with disk brake grease is kinda at the bottom of my list as well for now.

 

I'm STILL waiting on my friend to reclaim his flare tool, am still gathering parts, and will probably need some brake fluid when done. The trifecta of lazy right there.

Yep. I know I've been inspired. I just can't decide what I'd want to go with. Those machined metal jobs are pretty sweet looking to me. What I think would be really cool is a metal chip with the secret taco graphic on it, embedded in clear polycarbonate.

 

I almost got there with the second print. I worked enough heat into it with the drill and sandpaper that it was starting to fuse. I couldn't get the bottom portion to clean up enough though.

7r41lbr34k3r 's are nice and not expensive considering the materials and workmanship.

 

if he wasn't so busy with requests then I'd ask him to do a properly fitting riser for me. he's the obvious go to for this as he's determined all the measurements and has been up & working. not sure he's gonna want to start a new project though, even if it's based on info he has. he posted that he's not taking pre paid and special orders anymore, just doing runs and selling the knobs.

 

Are you just looking for something non-structural to cover the shaft between the grommet and bottom of the knob, like your leather idea? If so, that is something that would be easy to print. FDM (filament-type) that I have access to at work would take some clean up and paint. mesojdm has the much better SLS type (laser fused plastic power). That method would come out ready to install. He seems to do some one off stuff like that.

Also, if you grab a download of AutoDesk Fusion360, you can get either a free month trial or a longer term depending on how you apply. You can mock up what you want and send it off. Even the lower quality FDM is within +/-0.020in.

 

I have his #6 issued knob. Quality is outstanding. And his vernacular is outstanding also lol...

I won't speak for Rick, however my read is he wants to stay on the right side of the rules here and more importantly the right side of his customers (us TW'ers). He wants to get an inventory of blanks before taking future pre-paid.

Personally, I'm in for a Titanium knob from him when he sources. Like you said, he is currently the only one (to my knowledge) with a perfectly fitting collar mount. Better than factory

agree, I've been following all that too. although i like everything you mention, the actual design isn't my thing and i don't use a low rise knob like the stock height. so the perfectly fitting base and all is lost on me since I'd be using either a riser or a different knob design that provides height.

 

Getting a cover over that extender between the boot and knob would be easy, except for engaging the boot ring. But, the cover can just sit on top of the boot for what you want.
