Can those who know please share how to get Techstream set up for data logging? Maybe include a list of what is good to monitor in order to solve certain issues or quirks that a Tacoma may have. Hopefully some of the people in the OVTune threads can shed some light on this subject.

I did a pic tutorial in the M/T thread that should get you guys going in the right direction.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/out/?url=https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-ovtune-tacoma-3-5l-manual-transmission-engine-ecu-reflash.515734/page-179#post-17404450&inner=MjAxNiUyME9WVHVuZSUyMFRhY29tYSUyMDMuNUwlMjBNYW51YWwlMjBUcmFuc21pc3Npb24lMjAlMkYlMjBFbmdp&conv=3754115

When you get to the software registration key that asks for dealer code ect. just fill all the blanks in with giberish,it just needs filled out to proceed.
When you get to the data field selection you can clear the list on the right and then select all the items on the left that you want moved over to your "custom list" then move them using the arrows in the center.

ETA there are several posts in that thread following mine that help clarify things,so keep reading if you get confused. ;)

I was debating doing some logging but figured I'd wait till the update came to see if addressed all my issues like the engine surging and such. I will definitely be watching this for the info on how to do this and will probably be contributing after the update is released. Thanks for making this thread

I'm still working on a step-by-step. I haven't forgotten about it. I'm still learning the program myself, and it's somewhat tedious to configure the program, much less capture the data. It's not hard, per se, but I want to make sure all my instructions are clear and correct.

This is the setup part of the process. I'll follow up with a post on how to log. If anyone spots any errors, please let me know.

Here's a great video of how to install the program if you haven't already. You may or may not have the MVCI driver install in your program zip file. I didn't, and the program works just fine.

After installing, you have to change the communication protocol. To do so, click Setup -> VIM Select, then change the option from "TIS Techstream VIM" to "OpenPort 2.0 J2534 ISO/CAN/VPW/PWM". Connect the Tactrix cable to the truck and turn the truck on (just like you do when you flash the tune). Click Connect to Vehicle on the left side of the Techstream home screen. This is where the video picks up...at the 4:20 mark. The program may or may not automatically detect the make, model, year and features of the truck. If necessary, make the appropriate selections. My 2018 was not included in v12.00.127, but it is in v12.20.024. Once the program is connected to the truck, a list of available ECUs is presented. You'll be working with the Engine ECU. Double click it. On the next screen, select Data List from the buttons on the left. You'll be presented with a long list of things that the program monitors.

Now for the fun part. You'll have to create a list of the components from which you'll need to collect data. Start with a blank slate. To do so, press the button on the bottom of the screen with the two red arrows. On the next screen, press the double left arrow button. This will wipe the slate. From the list on the left, select the following items:

    A/F (O2) Lambda Sensor B1S1
    A/F (O2) Lambda Sensor B2S1
A/T Oil Temperature No.1 (if AT)
    Accelerator Position
    Battery Voltage
    Calculate Load
    Coolant Temperature
    Engine Oil Temperature
    Engine Speed
Exhaust VVT Change Angle Bank 1
Exhaust VVT Change Angle Bank 2
Exhaust VVT Target Angle Bank 1
Exhaust VVT Target Angle Bank 2
    Fuel Pressure (High)
    Fuel Pressure (Low)
    Fuel Pump Control Duty Ratio
    Fuel System Status Bank 1
High Pressure Fuel Pump Duty Ratio (D4)
    Ignition Timing Cylinder #1
    Injection Mode
    Injection Switching Status
    Injection Time Cylinder #1 (D4)
    Injection Timing Cylinder #1 (D4)
    Injection Volume
    Injection Volume Cylinder #1
    Injector Cylinder #1 (Port)
    Intake Air Temperature
Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1
Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 2
Intake VVT Target Angle Bank 1
Intake VVT Target Angle Bank 2
    Knock Correct Learn Value
    Knock F/B Value
    Lock Up Status (if AT)
    Long FT B1S1
    Long FT B2S1
    Mass Air Flow Sensor
Misfire count (You must individually select #1-6)
    Power Mode SW
    Shift Status
    Short FT B1S1
    Short FT B2S1
    Target Air-Fuel Ratio
    Target Fuel Pressure (High)
    Target Fuel Pressure (Low)
    Throttle Position
    Throttle Position Command
Throttle Position Sensor Open Position No.1
    Throttle Request Position
    Throttle Sensor Position
    Vehicle Load
    Vehicle Speed

After selecting all of these, move them to the list on the right by clicking the double right arrow. Save the list as something unique. Back on the data list page, select the saved list from the drop down menu to the right of the button with the two red arrows.

You probably need to download and install a ZIP/RAR file manager to open and install it.

Is this confirmed to work fully?
I ask because I had installed 12.20.024 and couldnt get any of the functions to work besides to read codes and actually a lot of functions weren't even available on the toolbar on the left.
I ended up dropping back down to 12.10.019 and that versions seems to function fully

I think I used Winrar but I don’t remember offhand.
I do believe Matt said techstreamwill be used in conjunction with flash manager to log for now till he gets his data logger up and running.

Would somebody be willing to help me with interpreting data regarding misfires? I have a custom set of items to be logged (the list came from Mat). It seems that I’m able to capture the data, but I don’t know what it means. I send the logs to Mat, and although he publicly has said that he reads all the zendesk emails, it would be nice to get a reply so that I have a better understanding of what’s going on with my truck. Also, I’ve been providing logs for multiple variations of the tunes, but my misfires are defiantly still there.

Also, is there a way to view the data in graph form? When I click the graph icon on the bottom of a captured log, the area of the page where it would seem appropriate to show up is blank. The left side of the page however, has a list of all items being monitored. When I press play, the left side gives me a second-by-second replay of the drive cycle, while the right sides stays blank.

    Thanks in advance
    -Mike
