Hi guys, so I am relatively new to this thread as I recently purchased my first Tacoma. I absolutely love my truck and look forward to doing more modifications to it in time. But there is one thing that I noticed was a little quirky on the truck.

Am I the only one who thinks that the ECT Power shifting is too much for daily driving? I can totally see it being great for off roading in fast technical sections. However, ECT Power off is TOO ECO friendly and I am required to apply 50% throttle just to get through small inclines which then makes me downshift and accelerate too much.

But then you have ECT Power, which I noticed a lot of you guys leave it on. But there has to be a middle ground. A tranny tuner or something? ECT power is a little too snappy to be driven nicely on the road while not being overly ECO friendly. Any thoughts?

I did the ECT always on mod. I have been driving exclusively with ECT power on for about a year. Gas mileage is the same. I was running 18 MPG before. I love the responsiveness of the ECT. The MPG decrease is only claimed by Toyota.

Do a search. I'm betting most on TW would agree ECT is a good option.

give it about 10k miles to adjust to your driving patterns and for you to adjust to it. it will smooth out.

Read the first post, it gets updated regularly by the OP. Then read the last 20 pages or so, you will probably have a decent idea of what it's about after that. Good luck

Yeah, if you read the review thread it's a lot tidier and provides a good summary of real reviews. Makes me love my truck in D or any mode for that matter. No contest... and despite the increased power and responsiveness my MPGs are the same as with Toyota's stock "eco" tune FWIW
