Taco truck tool box ideas?

I started looking for a black low profile tool box for the Taco and had no idea how hard it was going to be to find one that fits the ole' SR5! Wondering if anybody has any pictures or ideas?

I own the UWS but would suggest to get the Weatherguard. The Locking mechanism and actual barrel on the UWS box is sub standard and has become very finicky from regular use. The UWS box also will not fit if you have certain lumber/ladder racks installed where as the Weatherguard will fit no problem due to its stepped design and larger depth on the first step that contacts the bedrail. Co workers have Weatherguards and their locking mechanism is second to none.

Buy once, cry once reigns supreme in this category.

One word of advice when purchasing a truck box is to spend the extra 40-50 bucks and buy from a brick and mortar store so you can personally inspect the box BEFORE purchase. These items are big and bulky and are shipped freight from online vendors and more often than not come in with dings and dents. I received mine from Amazon and it came in dented. Why roll the dice when you can have a sure thing.

I am a carpenter by trade and can fit a corded sawzall in its box, skilsaw, combo drill set in their box, extension cords, my bags, a roughly 20"x8"x10"tall hand toolbox, random battery chargers/other loose cordless tools in the UWS. The weatherguard is roughly the same size and I am sure could carry the same amount of junk and more securely given the superior locking mechanism.

Wow, thanks for all the info it really helps! Maybe I'll save my coin and get the weather guard? I do plan on having this truck for a while. I'll have to look around for a retailer and check them out. Thanks again!!

 

holy crap man i got mine 2 years ago from Home Depot for around $135 or maybe check facebook Marketplace....no way in this lifetime would i pay that for a toolbox... good luck with your search though

 

I have the uws, good box. The lock needed a little wd40 at first.

I bought online. First one I had returned because it was beat up. Second one came in a little better.
I wanted to buy local but no one local to me would stock mid size truck tool boxes.

I’ve had this one from northern tool for about a year and am happy with it. I wanted something that wouldn’t obstruct the view in rear view mirror. With long bed I can still see top of tailgate in rear view.

I had the Kobalt low profile box on my last two trucks and it held up pretty well. Decided to go a different route with my current truck and bought a Camlocker toolbox. I’ve only had it since December, but I love it so far. Very well built and plenty of space. It was right around $500 after tax.

Yeah, matte black with a textured finish. I'm hoping the finish will hold up a little better than the gloss type finish. To me, the matte black just looks great.

Matte black is the way to go. Better Built is a good one too. The UWS just isn’t what it used to be.

I’d also recommend you guys put yoga mat between the plastic rail and tool box edge. If you put a lot of weight in the box and drive your truck hard you’ll dent the plastic sides. It also is more secure compared to metal on plastic.
