Oil Cooler

I have a '13 Prerunner, no tow package. I am having the trans cooler installed as we speak, it is the B&M supercooler. I just purchased a 3900lb trailer. How important is an oil cooler like the tow package equipped Tacoma's come with?
I already have a 5500lb receiver and trailer break control.

How much will you actually be towing? 3,900 lb trailer, but I'm guessing that is empty? Trans/oil cooler would be very beneficial. And hopefully, your trailer has brakes. In which case, you'd need a brake controller as well.

 

Having a trans cooler is important.
Towing in 4 not in H is more important.
I had a factory oil cooler and upgraded to a B&M to tow a 4,000 enclosed.
The B&M is much larger than factory.
It is night and day on how much faster the temps drop after getting up to speed.
I am running a scangauge to monitor trans temps but it is not req.

 

The B&M is what is being installed. The reviews were great and it is at least twice the size of the factory trans cooler. I found several engine oil coolers with mixed reviews.
I have been towing a smaller camper for several years, still got decent MPG's, even though the trans is in 4th gear. I'm sure the mpg's will take a big hit with this camper though.

Yes empty. I have he break controller, as my post states. Trans cooler was installed yesterday. My questions is regarding the importance of an engine oil cooler, which the 2nd gen Tacoma’s have included with the tow package. My mechanic that installed my trans cooler said I don’t need to worry about the engine oil cooler. That’s for your input.

 

Install an oil temp gauge and see. No substitute for real data. Coolers generally become needed at the extremes, like crossing Texas in the summer for mountain climbing in heat. A thermostatically controlled oil cooler is a good idea on any truck that works IMO.
