Bed Rack and Rack tent

After noon all, SO, I am retiring from the Navy in May and plan on road tripping around the country for a bit. Up the west coast to home (Portland) and then across to Denver and further out to Kentucky before settling in, in Tx.

I would like to get myself a rack for the bed and one of those folding tents to mount on top and was unsure what is good quality and or what is poo... Suggestions? I am looking to keep the entire ordeal around $3000 if possible all said and done. Pictures and website linky's welcome!

BTW, did a search, but didn't particularly see what I was looking for...

You just missed a GB on CVT tents. If CVT is the way you want to go give Bobby @Cascadia Tents a call and he'll more than likely take good care of you.

 

WELL HELL, they're located in Bend, Oregon.... that's my home! Well I will be headed up that way, I'm in San Diego and will be driving up the coast.... I knew I'd get some good asset's, the bed rack is a hard one for me... because I want something that I can continuously over the course of the life of my truck, not something I might want to just straight up replace later.

Check out Craigslist imo. People buy these tents, use them twice, then sell for considerably less.

Yeah I tried there are none within 100 miles, been looking on there, plus I have this weird OCD thing with buying stuff like that used, cause I KNOW I'll use the piss out of them and take care of them, but I'm always that 1% that buys a lemon.....

So I ended up working with Bobby and got a CVT tent, not only did he give me an amazing military discount but he actually drove it down to me in San Diego! Saved me a GRIP of money! THANKS BOBBY! I bought the bed rack from CBI Offroad, now let me tell you I wish I could talk proudly of my purchase from CBI Offroad, HOWEVER, I bought it back on March 13th, and on their website it said 4-6 weeks backlog, which was fine, I am not going on my Post military retirement roadtrip/camping trip until May 18th. And figured that was half of March, all of April and I should have it at the end of April latest right? So much to my surprise my invoice had "estimated delivery date" April 10th, which was awesome to me! Was excited, that day came and went.....

So I emailed them to see what they had to say, and I guess someone screwed up on the delivery date and put the wrong date on the invoice.... NOT MY FAULT. They said, email us again at the end of the week and we'll have an answer for you, no worries right? WRONG..... emailed them, another week goes by, FINALLY get a response... basically, yesterday I receive and email with "It will likely be a few weeks before its all ready to ship." Are you serious? So a few weeks(I count that as three) so what? MIDDLE OF MAY!? that would mean 8-9 weeks NOT your websites promised 4-6... and NOPE no help or assurances or even an ACTUAL estimated date...

SO I explained I have already bought a bunch of gear that is going to mount to the bed rack and its all sitting in my livingroom, I have a RTT sitting in the bed of my truck, STILL in the box.... WTF!? This is unsatisfactory. They email me back and say they are sorry for the inconvenience and they will be moving my rack to the head of the line to try to get it out in time.... SO I am just stuck now... because I don't have time to buy from another company to try to get them to me in time, I don't want a full refund cause I NEED a bed rack... and I am due to be out of my apartment and ON MY ROAD TRIP by the middle of May...

SO, pretty much, by their customer service, OR LACK THERE OF, and listening to some of the horror stories that other TW members have had with them(I just now heard all these, wish I had before), I definitely DO NOT recommend them and will NEVER buy from them again.....

 

Did you check Leitner racks? a bit expensive but I love mine. It's rock solid and modular so they can UPS to you. Bernhard is the guy to talk to there. CVT also sales them.

 

Funny you mentioned CVT cause I went to their website after posting about my experience and didn't even notice they sell a rack I like better! So I'm gonna call CBI tomorrow, cancel my order and get it from Bobby! Considering he can ship me a BETTER rack overnight... I call that win!

 

CBI is not known for customer service, yet members still buy from them, hoping things will be different, and get disappointed.

See this is why I didn't question buying from them. So many people suggested I buy from CBI that I thought, well those people that didn't have good experiences must have been the exception. I posted about my experience on the TW group on FB and quite a few people had bad experiences.... I will always suggest NOT buying from them in the future and definitely keep suggestion CVT to people. I have had nothing but good experiences and customer service from CVT since the first day. And nothing but silence and annoyance from CBI. As soon as they are done I will be posting up a review on their FB and company.

Appreciate the help! I called CBI the same day that I posted about my experience and had the best customer service I've ever had with them.... find it amusing that when I wanted to CANCEL an order they were nice and attentive... So I got my money back about $1200, and called Bobby two seconds later and ordered their bed rack, with shipping and everything it was about $400 cheaper. The RCI bed rack is what they sell. As always with any of my dealings CVT has been amazing for customer service.
