you can do it without turning the ignition off, or anything special. After the TCU is done just load the ECU file, switch template to ECU, flash

I read that some folks said 1.04 solved a surging issue on cold start.

I just noticed when pulling the truck into the garage from the drive bad surging when trying to creep into the garage. This is the first I noticed it after about a week of running the 91 tune. Is this what folks are referring to? It was pretty aggressive and I had to really stand on the brake to keep from slamming into my shelves. A/C was off and I was in D. Engine had been off for maybe 3 hours from getting home from work.

Yeah I know what you mean it was rough. Finally got the dongle code just waiting for him to send me the code to enter and let the flash begin. But it took several emails and questions to get it correct. I know it’ll be worth it but it was a pain.

Do you have two Tacomas? Asking cause you said you were in D, and you have a M/T

    Good news

After we move and get all situated, the next batch of tacoma kits will no longer use software dongles. :)

I get zero surging now. I can comfortably come into my garage with a little speed now and brake normally without having to be on high brake alert for a random surge that would send me through my hot water heater! Was an issue stock and nearly as bad on all versions of the tune until 1.04.

Seriously, for me if not for the slightly long 3rd gear hold in low speed/mild load situations (when it should upshift to 4th) this would be about as good as it gets IMHO

Not to off track the thread.

I love driving manuals. But the one in this truck is shit.

For what I do and what I need the auto OR fits. The Pro was overkill for me. Saved myself thousands too.

This surging happened only right after start up. Never had it happen otherwise. I’ll keep an eye on it.

I now need to find the break upgrade threads. :burnrubber:20 miles on 104 auto 87 octane, and so far really like. More to come later

Having driven both extensively, no way I'll go back to an auto unless I move and all I do is cruise around town at <45 MPH

I sent the Service tech guy a sound clip from my phone of the chirp. He said that’s all he needed to write up the TSB

How long did you let the engine warm up/idle? You HAVE to let these trucks idle for 15-20 seconds. You can see/ hear the pitch in RPMs drop from 1000 to 600. The power surge occurs when the engine rpm are high. It’s is an auto “warm” behavior that’s important for the life of the pistons. Promise you it will never happen if you let it warm.

I left my truck with the 91 tune at the dealership for a week while I was at Disney. Chirping was gone but I’m pretty sure they flashed my ECU back to stock.

Exactly what this guy said. When I drive the auto it felt like it came out of a Mini Cooper...like I was going to break the stick. I got the auto because it is easier to drive and tend to a child. I’m super impressed with how mine drives with the tune. It is the most “Cadillac” truck I have ever owned and it wheels like a Badmamajama. It goes too...scoots nicely indeed...even with armor.
