Took the truck into the dealer the other day... Sounded like an angry cricket had set up shop in the engine bay. Came out with a New TSB, T-SB-0016-18 Chirping Noise fm High Press Fuel Pump. Just wanted to post some info up about it. It seems the new fuel pump assy is on backorder for now.

Can someone send a video of this "chirping" sound?

Mine had already ruled it out as normal by comparison. Now there is a TSB. I can't wait to hear what they have to say. I'm sure ill have to get a field rep, case manager and their supervisor involved just like i had to do on my last tsb.

That is good that they have a new pump to fix that.

Should be interesting. I already have documentation of the HPFP chirping. Should be pretty clear at this point and they better order me a pump.

Thank you very much! I couldn’t stand the sound of it anymore, nor the excuse of it being “normal and ordinary”.

Already a huge thread on this. Glad they are doing a TSB. I had my high pressure fuel pump changed out at 5k miles. At 23k now and still chirp free!

Was beside one at an intersection on the weekend that sounded like this, pretty noisy injectors/valvetrain too. :notsure:

Appointment made. Upsetting to me that when I asked if they had any record or documentation about my previous 3 meetings specifically dealing with management and the chirp, they said "not that I can see". So does Toyota only document on repair or action taken? I can't believe nothing was noted.

Plausible deniability, no record means it never happened. That means no liability on them if something bad happened.

I guess I'll have to eat my hat and buy a lotto ticket. They ordered a new one on the the second visit. The funny thing about it is the tech who wrote it off as normal by comparison was the one who gave the go ahead on the replacement . I still feel bad Toyota made him round up another 17 3.5 DC TRD OR and run both to 174 degrees to compare. I have gone from " I want to get rid of this " to "I want to see how much money Toyota can lose on this . "

This has been an issue since at least 2012. The Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ had it. Toyota said "normal"

These HPFP's were originally designed without ethanol in mind from my understanding. I've heard a few Acura's chirping as well. I had 3 HPFP's replaced on my FR-S and Toyota finally told me to kick rocks the 4th time.

I had a F150 do it also. There are reports of it completely going away depending if you get the right HPFP.

Long story short, you likely wont ever see a fix for this if they haven't done so already. It's annoying but you'll learn to embrace the "Crickets"

yea, me too....they said it would come back and it sure has....but the noise has to be present when you take it in so they can verify it....so......its a waiting game....thank goodness it live about 2 miles from dealer...made copy of TBS and will take in next time it's chirping

I sort of wish my truck develops the chirp. I miss them after getting rid of my FR-S

Also, don't expect Toyota to replace your HPFP forever, they will shut you down eventually
