Fox 2.5’s with remote resivoirs final decision help

Just bought a brand new set of these off someone on CL but yes everywhere these things are backordered. Heard some great things about the 6112/5160 and even compared to the OR suspension god damn these things are beefy...Excited to put these on this weekend.

Eibach 650lb spring. Running more weight than I expected to ever run so I had to change the ones that came with the 6112

 

Thinking of getting either 650 or 700 in the future once I get a bumper and more skid plates on

Just went off-roading this past weekend with my buddy with a pro. I have OR. He was going over stuff I could not. I was bottoming out hard. Had to slow down. I asked him over the radio if he was hitting. He just laughed. When we’re going around 40 mph with occasional bumps/drops less than 12” we were same ride height. I had full pressure In tires, he was aired down a bit. On the technical stuff he would drag I didn’t.

Basically I’m sold on some Fox CO now. My buddy’s 4Runner with 5100’s wasn’t keeping up either. But he was more conservative.

If you are anal about height CO are adjustable. Always sucks having to level out your spring kit with trim packers.

I've had my 2.5's for about two weeks now and I love them. As many have mentioned, the ride is super smooth. I was looking for an improved ride as well as easy adjustability, which I both got. Would I have loved 2.5's with RR and DSC? Hell yeah! Would they have been overkill for how I use my truck? Absolutely. I know everyones needs are different but for me (mostly city, some highway, and some dirt roads and beach) these are perfect.

 

yoo I have a set of rear 2.5s with remote reservoir and DSC adjusters that I am going to be selling this summer. They are the Fox drop in replacement for the tacoma, good for up to (not more than) 1.5" of rear lift. This is limited by the shock's travel as they are 8.5ish" travel shocks. If you (or anyone else) is interested I can sell you them for a good price. They have been great for me so far, but they do need a rebuild relatively soon as they started squeaking and have lost just a touch of their dampening ability (meaning I had to crank them up one turn for road driving to get that smooth ride over bumps after having them at one setting for on road stuff for quite a while) and I am upgrading to SUA w/ long travel bypass shocks. Rebuilds from Fox run about $300 ($185 plus two way shipping) including shipping, and a good 4x4 shop should be able to rebuild on site if you dont want to ship them to Cali.

 

I'd also talk to @*TRD* . I'm sure he could point you in the right direction for anything you may need for service @AY_ARONTRD

 

Oh, I only said that as a courtesy in case OP or anyone else is interested. I am not having them rebuilt before sale as I asked some other TW members and the consensus was that either people wanted to rebuild them themselves or at least send them off for rebuild to a shop of their choice so they know it was done the right way. Thanks for the recommendation though!

Went from Icon to Fox w/ RR. IMO, the Fox set up is better for daily driving and slower off-road options. The Icons are also great, but are a little stiffer and really need to be pushed to experience the benefits.
By far the most noticeable difference between the two is in the rear. For awhile I was contemplating removing the overload leaf cause it was a little harsh. The Fox tears really smoothed out the ass end.
Do not go over 2”. The ball joints and steering rack will go bad really fast.

It’s an awesome setup. And the support after sale is what every business should strive for. I hear great thing about @HeadStrong Off-Road as well. Pick one - you can’t go wrong.

 

I’m running a 14” 600lb with a bumper, winch, and skids. Currently at 2” over stock and couldn’t be happier with the ride.

 

The OP has a Sport... either upgrade is going to change the ride significantly for the positive in every respect.

IMHO - the sport suspension sucks. Not even sure what there were thinking when they designed that one. It's harsh, its harsh and the truck rolls pretty good in turns on the road and off road.. it's harsher... had to add a bale of hay to the bed until I upgraded to the 5100s..

To the OP to get lifted that suspension you're looking at is not cheap. Not sure if its 3x better that the 5100 setup with all the goodies. I've never ridden in a Taco with the setup you're looking at. But as mentioned, think about how you use your truck most of the time and weather or not you really NEED or you really WANT that Fox suspension.

Either is ok... only live once but not sure if the Fox is worth all the extra coin, can save and get some other goodies if $$ is a thing.

 

OP - there was a guy that was selling his Fox setup up here in norcal for like 2400. Let me see if I can find his posting.

I have an OR and although I WANT the flashy front/rear RR, I just couldn't justify it with the amount of off roading I do. I go "frequently" like twice a month or so but even then both RR would be overkill for what I am doing. Not a desert runner nor am I an intense crawler. I like to do a little bit of everything which ultimately led me to snagging the 6112/5160s. Plus for $800 I couldn't pass up the deal.
