Yeah, but I am being positive and saying “not yet” at least. One thing is for sure though, Toyota will always protect their customers, so Android will have to comply if they ever want Toyota to install their software. It is also scary to think where your data is going if you tether you phone in any other brand vehicle.

Thanks, I hit the same thing and it was driving me crazy. I use the pandora app a lot, the only issues I have is that I have to force stop the app and restart it to get it to connect properly sometimes. I do hate the fact that scrolling through stations is limited while the vehicle is in motion. Is there any bypass for that? when I have a passenger, I would like them to be able to not be locked out.

Hopefully the entune outage will be fixed soon.

Since Pandora is not working with entune, this morning I just used my phone to play Pandora via bluetooth. All I lost was the ability to thumb up or down songs, and I had to hear 1 add on my 30ish minute commute. with XM (crappiest radio ever - pay to still hear ads, hello no) and FM I would have been lucky to hear one song during my drive.

Satellite is terrible. I'm still on my trial and I don't use it.

Coming from a jeep with uconnect... at first I thought Entune was awesome! Yeah, that honeymoon didn't last long. I just threw in the towel and ordered an aftermarket radio with android control and apple car play (with all the stuff to integrate it with steering wheel controls, settings, and what not). Kenwood DNX574S to be specific.

I asked exactly that question. He said that some versions are using a PIN, which I assume to mean they sort of listened to customer feedback in the Engine 3.0 software.

    Thanks.

A lot of average joes do not understand the complexities of mixing vehicle systems with smart phones.

A vehicle's systems, all of them, have to work every time, all the time, for years at a time with most likely never getting updated. Adding a completely different eco system into a vehicle that has access to external influences, bad patches, lack of patches, etc and continue to work flawlessly without consumer backlash is difficult. Not to mention the above mentioned information that can be passed on to companies like apple and any application on your phone. That then data is sold off. There's a lot people do not understand about modern IT.

I work in modern IT and I don't understand a lot of it. I can't understand why vehicle manufacturers can't push firmware/software updates over the Wi-Fi at someone's home? A lot of people are probably able to connect their vehicle to their home network, so why not allow updates that way?

    Ford does.

    It doesn't work for shit.

I worked with their Sync 3 platform trying to get it to update over Wifi for over a month. They stated it can take up to 60-90 days for the Sync system to download an update depending on how long it is connected to wifi.

Grab a USB stick and put the update on that, install took 5 min.

IMO, vehicle systems such as anything CANBUS and HVAC need to be closed off. Run a completely standalone infotainment that can either be a simple as phone mirroring or simply a simple platform OS that can read application inputs from a smart phone platform via API. By having everything connected, not only are there huge risks of bugs causing unexpected behavior, but the more integrated an external system (again, think smart phone and any app that is on said smart phone) can have access to your vehicle's CANBUS, HVAC, etc. Dangerous stuff. Disparate networked systems can be a disaster if not handled right.

Thank GOD, and the OP for course! I started getting the error "invalid login" since yesterday afternoon and I was going crazy all night trying to figure out how to fix it. Literally did everything I could to restart it. Glad to know Toyota Tech acknowledged it and are working on a fix soon...hopefully. Please keep us updated OP!

There is a plethora of compatibility issues to include software update and cycle times. As mentioned above, all manufacturers are looking at wireless updates to vehicles, but it will take some time to sort out all the kinks to have a platform that just works intuitively. Another thing to consider with update cycles, is Apple and Android can update over a network, at quicker speeds and intervals, and can throw huge chunks of their budget at that entire endeavor. I have no idea, but I think Toyota just can’t throw money away at R&D to compete with cell phones. I believe Apple Car Play and Android Auto are the best compromise.
Finally, with respect to compatibility issues, the boot up and Bluetooth pairing take so long because there are over 25 different Bluetooth profiles in circulation today; that is ridiculous IMO.

Oh, and FYI to all that is reading this post. Please, please, please.... with these type of issues, CALL CORPORATE! The dealerships and corporate are two separate entities. We communicate, train, respond to field requests, etc., but Toyota has an entire division dedicated to these things. We track and respond to all customer feedback to include every survey that is sent out by the dealerships. So please contact the HQ for North America if you are having any issues, suggestions, or are not satisfied with the service you receive from the dealerships. You can find the contact numbers in your owners manual I believe.
