Burnt paint from factory?))

Hey all, I have an Inferno OR 2018. The night after I brought it home I was washing and then putting on a good coat of paint sealant. I noticed some blemishes on the hood, right at the fender seam. Light buffing did nothing, so I went ahead and laid down a good coat of sealant and the next day a good coat of carnuba. I honestly didn't want to go through the hassle of dealing with the dealership and likely getting told 'sorry'.

I did a decent wash this morning and noticed it again (you have to have the angle just right). It's not always visible, otherwise I would have taken it in and complained. Has anybody seen anything like this?

Three pictures of the same location, slightly different angle. It's almost as if there's some heat effect from welding.... but don't welds occur before paint?

 

And primer which has to dry before stages of finish coats and clear. So no its not for factory welds.

 

That looks like it was caused by a solvent spill.

 

I'll point it out at my first service, but doubt I'll get any traction with Toyota.

 

What the heck is going on with their paint QC this year?

 

It's visible if you look for it. Not really visible at most angles. Will catch your eye if at the right angle but not really looking for it.

For some reason I can't file attach it here but, it talks about water getting trapped under the vehicle wrap (Rapguard) and it stains the paint.

You heat the affected area with a heat gun to 70-80 deg C (158-176deg F) but stay under 80C/176F , for 5 mins, let cool down and inspect, repeat as necessary.

Avoid getting anything rubber nearby hot.

Thanks for the info. File attached. I may give this a try. I happen to have a relatively new porter cable heat gun and a decent laser thermometer

 

Yeah same as it ever was... OP should stand back and look at the plastic paint compared to the metal paint... then notice he's got a 3 tone paint job. Toyota specializes in this.

The hood doesn't look good to me. Looks like paint was exposed to some serious wind and paint thinner. Maybe the gun that was spraying the hood ran out of paint in the middle of painting the hood.

 

That looks like overspray. Should be able to get it out, but need to wetsand, compound, polish, and wax.

 

Oooh, wetsanding always spooks me a little. I have some finishing polish and a good dual action orbital. I'll try the heat gun first, and if no luck will move to my finishing polishes.

 

Try Chemical guys v32 cutting polish

 

Really seems you have to carefully inspect the paint job before taking delivery.

Common problem mine had them drove back to dealership looked at other ones and found it on every Tacoma on there lot . Mine had two spots . Clay bar took them out

 

The white truck, or mine? I have some clean clay too.

 

White truck , but clay yours first that will help get overspray off as well

 

That's a good idea, I'll give that a try. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Just looks like it's 'in' the paint vs. surface debris.

 

I have a bit of orange peel on my lower rockers, but that's not so bothersome. I think the sales guys are taught to say it's there to help protect it from scratches and chips. Mayhaps.

 

Either take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it or your gonna have to cut and polish it. Maybe even wet sand it.

 

Orange peel is normal on the rockers all toyota pickups have it protect from rust , chipping , and fine scratches
