    Wrong, again.

I have not had to deal with warranty work that was not covered due to modifications, but my friend with a Mustang has. He took his car in because it was throwing a code for a misfire, and they tested it and then put it through a stress test, which blew his motor. Then they told him that it wasn't covered due to modifications. They could/would not prove that it was a direct result of the mods he had. He escalated it up to corporate and after months of waiting, they said the same thing. He was SOL and ended up forking out the money to replace the motor.

Have you had any experiences that could prove your statement and disprove mine?

I am jumping into this late I know

but I have had warranty work denied on two vehicles ive owned, and a vehicle a friend of mine owned.

in my experience if you have an aftermarket part attached to whatever is having the problem they will tell you to pound sand.

Example: aftermarket intake - engine problems = Denied.

Example 2: aftermarket lighting - bad alternator = Denied. (the lighting was on its own circuit)

Example 3: aftermarket clutch - anything in the drive line = denied

Yeah I’m always afraid to get denied, I don’t wanna have to pay for something I know is not my fault. I have been very careful not to put anything but bolt on products and only few things at that. After the warranty I’ll be putting better replacement stuff then oem.

I'm glad you have someone looking out for you. Would have sucked big time if it fully let go. Doesn't matter how it gets fixed as long as it gets fixed. Maybe if this happens to enough people the dealers will torque and loc tite these properly if its a problem. For the rest of us thank you for pointing out something else that needs checking on these trucks while your under there. Better safe than sorry.

No doubt, I feel blessed I found it before it was a real problem. Thanks you Steve. I feel it’s a factory problem. They probably just didn’t torque the bolts enouph, like countless other bolts on these trucks. You would think loc tight would be a need or have to on something that important like a carrier bearing.

Got the car back, everything was covered by the warranty. We’re back to 100% again. I will say there is less shuddering when shifting from first to second. I was looking up symptoms of a carrier bearing problem and it said that shuddering could be a problem.

There were 14200 on the truck. Idk if it is or not. I have tried googling a service sheet at the mile stages but have been unsuccessful. I would think it should be though. But the techs for the most part probably skip a lot of what they are suppose to do.

Glad dealer took care of you. Did they use white or black zip ties?

They looked silver. But they used enouph to fill the holes all the way. Must be like 30 per side.

To me it looked like that bolt was torqued properly. That’s why I said something was fishy. I highly doubt the threads on that bolt gave away. Perhaps maybe it wasn’t and the marks on the metal were just from when it loosened and the vibration of the bearing, since the other side was loose as well. Anyway Atleast it’s taken care of now

Thanks for the heads up. Mine looked good but that part failing could have been bad. If they are not checking those bolts, I’d look at the engine and tranny mounts, springs, shocks and coils, and every other bolt under there too.

I have an appointment with the dealer Saturday morning to update the transmission and CPU software (I was told that late 16 and early 17 models got the bad software???). After that is under truck time to check all the bolts, nuts, clips, zip ties, duct tape and bailing wires etc.

It would be better to be safe than sorry. Techs get flat rates on warranty work so they want to do it as quick as possible I’m sure.
