That's actually the height I think I'm going to go for. Do these All-Pro racks cover up the bed rails or do they remain usable?

In the next few weeks, I'll be opening a group buy for a new design of bed bars. There are two heights, 6" & 9", and models for Tacomas and Tundras. Pics to come soon.

Any issues with how the Front Runner rack attaches to the bed rails? Seems like the entire load of the rack and tent would be on the small bolts of rack attachments.

I am really into the one by Brute force fab http://www.bruteforcefab.com/bed-cages.html . I like how it mounts to the factory bed bolts instead of the side of the bed. I am torn between tepui/cvt/hitent for my RTT. Will most likely go with the best deal out of the three I can find.

I took a 650 mile trip last week with my CVT Mt. Ranier on top of my KB Voodoo tall rack. I averaged 19.5mpg. Stayed in the right lane and kept it under 70mph. Faster you go, the more drag you have to overcome.

Not sure if OP ever got his rack situation sorted out, but I went with the CBI aluminum rack for my bed rack on my 2nd gen. I liked the idea of being able to go with a local (Idaho) company for my truck, and I was also able to pick it up as I was passing through their town for work. I also mounted my CVT Mt Shasta on it, with the annex. The rack is mid-height, so there was not much drag. The only downside to that was that the tent sat too close to the cab, so I could not put in one of the window stakes on that side. The annex was also a bit droopy, compared to when I had it on my XJ. However, my 2nd gen was stock ride height and my jeep was not, lol.

I have since moved on to a 3rd gen taco, and upgraded to a trailer and CVT Mt. Mazama. The bed rack I got from CVT was an early model that is not compatible from 2nd to 3rd gens, so it is no longer useful to me unfortunately. As a product though, I loved it.
