Exactly! People pay hundreds to thousands for cool "overlanding" awnings. Meh, I'll take the flexibility of a tarp instead for now.

    Hey I know that guy!

I'll put a new review up when I get my Tradesman shell and do a shakedown cruise with the 16 footer.

Had to go look up Prussic knots. They don't look too hard to do and pretty versatile. Please post what you come up with. I'm interested in trying them.

Indeed. I spent a lot of time thinking and researching before I got the Fiamma awning on my truck. Going in I knew it really only does one thing well - pitch and store quickly for midday shade. It is perfectly useless with any appreciable sun angle since the footprint is so small and it is impractical to angle it very much.

The thing that amused me the most researching awnings was how almost every photo I could find of awnings in use had everyone sitting underneath them in full sun!!! First rule of product photography is don’t take photos at midday but of course a smallish awning mounted high enough to walk under can’t produce shade in the afternoon or morning.

As posted earlier for actual camp shade I use the awning to help support a larger shade structure but of course in that role it is just very expensive tarp poles. It’s real practical use is quickly deploying lunch stop shade when on the go. And it does that very well. But for any other use the tarp is more versatile.

Which waterproof spray did you order?
    Silicone?
Let me know how it works, and improves the tarp, please.
I made prussics for climbing with double fisherman knots.
    Look at "Soft Shackles".
I got 8 ft DIY using pieces from Quest Outfitters. Those ladies are great to work with.

    Sample Quote.
I believe the advantage is the large diameter poles.
The disadvantage is these are not adjustable.

I lusted over Fiamma's for many years before finally figuring out my own method. Who knows, maybe one day I'll own an Earthcruiser and it would definitely have a massive Fiamma type awning.

Keet Seel ruins were so bad-ass. We also did a road trip and a little 4 mile sunset hike along the Wildcat trail in Monument Valley. What a great weekend.

The hike into Keet Seel is 9.2 miles each way (actual recorded miles). The new inReach Mini did great - only 26% battery used in 2 days over 15 hours of runtime during our total 22.5 miles of hiking. I had it set super aggressive, marking a point every 1 second and sending a ping to the online map every 30 minutes.

    Enjoy some of the pics...

So awesome. I need to go. Was the permit/reservation pretty easy to get?

Anker dual 2.4 car charger goes on lightning sale at 2:20pst. Reg price is already only 9.99, so it will be cheaper than a gas station one and surely more reliable. Not really backpacking gear, but relates to the battery pack conversation in this thread

My friend got it about 4 weeks ago. It's a free permit, but only 20 people a day can go. It's only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, so the window is pretty narrow. They also will cancel permits if theres risk of flooding from storms, which happens frequently during the monsoons.

Have never purchased a pole... Whenever backpacking I always have trekking poles with me. If you flip them upside down, and put pressure on them they work great with the Noahs tarp, especially if you use it wit a hammock. Dont have pics but next time I go camping I can snag come.

I think this 16' Noah tarp will be a bit too much for my hammock. :)
But, I just ordered a Underground Quilt Winterdream 12 tarp for my hammock. With End Poles & the Mod.

Yeah, I was attempting to be humorous.
I pictured my 16' tarp, with almost 23' diagonal, used with my hammock that I can fit between trees less than 12 ft apart. (11'10") A prototype bridge hammock.

First pitch with my Noah 12. I still have some bugs to work out, but this isn’t bad. :)
