Increase A/C performance

I thought I saw a thread a while back that described how to do this, but I cannot find it now. I'll definitely have to get one of my more mechanically inclined friends to help.

 

I checked my vent temps with a digital thermometer getting readings at idle between 44-48 and driving around 42-44. My truck had the frame replaced and the ac recharged in March. I really thought my ac was colder before and others riding with me have said the same. Before I had to turn it down and now I have to run it on high speed recirculate. It has been in the mid 90's since the beginning of June. Should I take it in and have it checked or is this good enough to pass and I would be wasting money having it checked. I have replaced the cabin filter.

 

Today in South Ga the temp was 96 with heat index at 106. Tonight the humidity is still at 80%. It's just nasty hot.

 

Sounds good to me. In 90 degree heat mine goes to 42. At idle in 90 degree heat I’m probably at 60 though.

 

I would get my old first gen down to 33 degrees on the highway. Granted it was an extended cab only. I will admit the double cab takes longer to cool off than a single cab. My ac in my 2012 sucks compared to my 99.

No the evaporator is inside the dash. It’s whatbthe air moves through to get cold. Looks like a mini radiator.

 

This part was whatever the "big black tank" is. I'm still looking for the photo, was back when I had my Moto razr...so it won't be the best haha.

 

Ceramic tint... no never tried that. But I actually have a similar condition, above 70deg (from meds) I start sweating alot! Tint does help, I currently have 2.5% tint all the way around (about 2x that of 'limo tint'). Making sure cabin filter is clean, like stated above, is important, also, maybe make sure the ac clutch is fully engaging, make sure the outside air inlet is clear of leaves and junk, check ac fan box behind the glove box, if leaves and crap build up in the outside air intake they can get pulled into the fan box causing blockage, make sure the correct amount of 'freon' is in the system, too much or too little is really bad. All in all, when everything is in spec I don't find the ac lacking. I'm for sure going to look into the fan mentioned above too!

 

I didn't do the ceramic tint, but I did spring for sunteks' CXP on my truck. I live in San Diego and was also sick of the heat build up in the taco, and wanted to cut as much heat coming in as possible, but not going super dark and being a ticket magnet (live right next to highway patrol station). look at the % total solar energy rejection. That's heat. I have the CXP 70, which is so light you almost can't tell there's tint there, but the amount of heat coming in the window was dropped significantly. It claims about a 44% cut, and it certainly feels like it compared to the windshield which has no tint when just holding your hand in front of the glass.

If I were in your shoes, with what you've got going on, I'd try to find a dealer with the suntek CIR tint, and go as dark as you think you can without running into issues, cause you don't want to have to take this tint off for a fix it ticket, its NOT cheap. And also make sure your AC is working properly.

Not sure what the brand name of tint Is that I use, just make sure at least 3 ply! Lol, after getting a ticket, the judges 'usually' forgive the fine or reduce it if you provide pictures that the tint has been removed. I have to retint the front wimdows at least twice a year, I have it down pat! 30mins start to finish including removing old tint! Costs about $35 in materials. Lol, I consider the max $70 a year to retint and on average $50 a year in tickets I actually had to pay maintenance cost! Hey, plus ablack truck with completely black windows just looks good!

 

One thing I've not seen noticed is you should use the re-circulation button. I believe it blows harder that way since it's not trying to pressurize the cabin by forcing more air into a sealed space. Additionally, it's also cooling air that's much cooler than the outside air. That should help a lot.

 

Yes I'm going to this new place today called "LexTechs", I kept reading great reviews last night so I've called them this morning... Cheaper than the dealership to do an inspection, vacuum pull, and recharge of the system. I will ask them if they check the things you mentioned.

Honestly I'll probably do the ceramic tint but as low of darkness as possible. The state troopers here are extremely anal about tint. They won't even use the meter, which I'm pretty sure they are required to do.
Twice in the past 2 years grandpa has had to go to court for his old truck that honestly doesn't look tinted at all. He gets to court, tells them, they test it, then appologize and dismiss it.

Same thing happens to some of my friends who have either no tint or a little tint. I swear they are just trying to get more tickets... Ugh.

I run my A/C 24/7 and have never turned it off because I like the cool air on me all the time...….I wonder if that "A/C PRO" stuff I see on TV works any better then the normal A/C cooling??
