I thought the same thing when I decided to buy a MTB...I ended spending $1100 on my first bike. Zac808 Gave me some good advice like buying a used higher end bike. or Rent a bike and see how you like it before buying it. He also mad a good point when he said that you don't want to buy a lower end bike, fall in love w/the sport and kick your self in the ass for not having 150mm of front and rear travel. www.mtbr.com is a good site for reviews. A bike like the one you want to get is either gonna make you stop rideing it or make you go out and buy a better one. I telling you this because I bought a mongoose "full supension" bike at Target after the 2nd day the pedal fell off. I also felt that the shocks bottoming out.

Im partial to specialized because thats what I ride but both look good. Hope you are planing to ride down hill stuff not up hill though. If you are looking to ride up then down I would look for a XC bike.

Got it back today with a crap load of bad news...well first they told me my rim has the crap bent out of it which i knew, then they told me both brakes needed to be replaced. So theres $300 just in the brakes. and another 200 or so in a rim. and on top of that i still need to get my season ticket for $200, and a chest and back protector for $200 or so. FML

^ Very, very nice. Just got to change out the tires and you'll be set. I'm jealous of this one. Is it an EX8 Fuel?

Yes sir, EX8. I planned on ditching the tires before I got the bike, fortunately Trek shipped it with XR2's so I'm good to go...

I just gotta post in this thread. Picked up a new GT Force 2.0 in super white, to match the truck of course.
